Quick question.
How does everyone feel about The Beatles?
I've personally grown up with them. My mom is 49, which is just around the Beatles fan-craze era. That is her favorite band. My mom frequently put headphones on her stomach while she was pregnant and blasted me with Beatles (amongst many other bands). Whether or not that particular act actually made me like the Beatles or not, I don't know. But I feel a strong connection to them. I truly love them. They're revolutionary, and I do honestly believe that they've paved the way for rock music today. The one thing I just don't like is everyone jumping on the bandwagon just because of the movie "Across The Universe" or just because peace and love is the cool thing right now. It's sadly just a fad right now for many people. I feel very bad for those people who just jump on the bandwagon to be cool. Sorry, sidetracked once again. But a friend of mine posted a status on facebook that really got me going. I'm usually not so controversial and aggressive. Especially on something petty like facebook. But it REALLY got to me. Really ticked me off. I might be one of the biggest Beatles fans you'll ever come across. They are by no means the only band that I listen to. In fact, I really can't pick a favorite band, but if I had to, they'd be up there on the top. Hands down. Anyhow, his status went like this,
"JOHN LENNON WAS THE BEATLES!!!! Death to all who appose this ideology..."

...er. I beg to differ. I love John Lennon just as much as the next dude, but lets be real about this. I simply stated that I opposed his idea. He came back to me with this little gem.
"Without John there would have never been any beatles! he carried 98% of the talent then George was 1.5% and Ringo was .5%! Paul was a prettyboy poster child and a money grabbing punk. LONG LIVE JOHN LENNON!!!"

---*edit.
Might I just note that, for the record. John Lennon DID NOT in fact start the band. It was Paul who did, and got an idea to include John because he had heard him play the guitar and they were friends so, kablam! We have the beginning of The Beatles*---

I pretty much flipped shit right then and there. I won't go any further that that, but here is where I was coming from,
"Woah, seriously? Okay, I get what you're saying. If John Lennon wasn't in the band, clearly we would not have the Bealtes as we know them today. However, each member of The Beatles was a serious aspect to the band, not just Lennon, himself. If we didn't have Paul, George or Ringo it would still not be The Beatles. They were all great friends, and ... Read Morenot only did they have fantastic chemistry in the band, they were all very much a part of the band. Without Paul, they wouldn't have half of the hits that they had because, without Paul, John would have had no one else to write songs with. There wouldn't be the amazing songs such as "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Norwegian Wood" without George. And there wouldn't be "Octopus's Garden" or "With A Little Help From My Friends" if it wasn't for Ringo. I completely agree that The Beatles would be no where near such a high success as they were with him. But you have to give credit where credit is due, and it is most certainly not all John Lennon."

Ack. It was one of those /facepalm moments. I just can't believe someone who calls them self a Beatles fan, and then say something like that. My brain was all "Does. Not. Compute." Pfft, whatever. Basically, the rest went exactly like this,
Him:
not talkin about success, im talkin about honor and personability. Lennon was the most talented and devoted to the music. his work for world peace, tho a failure, will go down in history and will one day strike a chord with a generation that will follow his example as a whole and end all the hatred. band aside, without Lennon the world would be a very different place today and the though talented as the others are they never have and never will impact the world in such a way the John did in the ways of love, friendship, Brotherhood/Sisterhood. Lennon was a benchmark in history that changed the world! none of the others can say that...

Me:
true. however, you try telling the other members that they weren't as dedicated and talented. because, i promise you, they, along with many many other people would have to disagree. he was just way more outspoken, and had a radical ideology for the time being, making himself somewhat of a historical figure. i do believe that he has changed the way some people think, but you have to remember, not everyone is a fan of the beatles/lennon so, he hasn't generally "revolutionized" anything. only people recently have jumped on the "peace/love/harmony" bandwagon and it is very clearly apparent. not to say that the people who were teens when the band came out didn't believe in it then, but it was fiercely looked down upon because they were not exactly the type of music that parents agreed with then. now that all the teenagers have grown up and become our parents, is it finally acceptable to freely express our ideas the way John Lennon encouraged so many. I guess the thing that gets me the most, is someone saying they're a Beatles fan, and not giving the credit to the rest of the band. You may as well just only be a John Lennon fan if you feel that strongly about him and believe that he was the best person in the band. Not saying that you're like that, but I'm just saying what this sounds like to me.

So, I just thought about this all day.
What is your stand on The Beatles? Let me know!

Keep on keepin' on!

The Beetles haven't affected me at all. I dunno how that changes your or his argument. :P

I can appreciate their value, I just don't like their music.

re: your previous entry
Could I have the recipes for the foods mentioned in your earlier entry ^_^ ??

Also, the phrase "Keep on keepin' on" reminds me of Gladys from the Ellen show...hopefully you'll know what I'm talking about, otherwise I will feel out of place.
ANYWAY, for your question on the Beatles for the current entry...
They intrigue me. Especially John Lennon. I'm somewhat neutral about them, but I'll definitely say that I give them my utmost respect.
