Hello Seattle
Thursday. 11.5.09 2:09 pm
Oh my, thank you so much for all the warm welcomes I've been receiving! ^.^
I really do enjoy this a lot more than I used to when I tried to blog a while ago.
I posted that entry this morning, and literally felt so much better throughout the whole day, just knowing that I got some ideas/thoughts out there in the open. It is a great and awesome release to not always keep things bottled up like I do!
On another note, I'm taking Intro to Philosophy at school. I thought it was going to be really stupid, I'm not going to lie. I also take Intro to Ethics, which is taught by the same professor, same room, directly after Philosophy.
Well, today we got into the philosophy of religion. Now, I've been doing a lot of just random research on that kind of stuff, on my own. It really interests me. As of right now, I'm kind of a self-proclaimed agnostic. I was, however, baptized Presbyterian. I went to a Methodist church for a while (really, no difference) and went to a Pentecostal church for youth group only (I really am not a big fan of that religion, but I went because my friends went). After that, nothing made sense to me, religion wise. I'm very much interested in Wiccan beliefs, and Buddhist beliefs. However, I'm a very "middle of the road" kind of person. I'm very much open to many ideas in general. My thing is, I'm preaching the ideal of "I DON'T KNOW!" I'm not overly sensitive to the Bible. However, I do believe in acting out on the differences between right and wrong. My parents have raised me right, and I believe that I have a very good set of morals. I do not believe that I need to go out there and convert as many people as I can to get them to believe me. I detest shoving my beliefs down your throat, so you will NEVER hear me doing anything of the sort. What you decide for your path in life, is your business. Never, will it ever, be mine. (sorry, I got a little sidetracked!)
Anyhow we were talking more so about the Judeo-Christian beliefs. We were talking about the proofs of God existing, and then this next lecture we will be discussing the proofs about how God does not exist. Like I said, I'm in no way religious. I think of myself as more spiritual than anything. To me, being agnostic is believing in the thought of "Yes, there is a higher being out there, whether it be me, you or anyone else like God, Buddha whoever. I don't know who or what to believe. I do however, believe in taking care of myself, and trying to be the best possible me there is. Doing right by my set of standards, giving back to the community, just doing complete and simple good towards myself and others. That in and of itself is definitely a religious experience, I think. That being said, I am completely enthralled with other religions. I love to know what they think is right and wrong. I love to know how they worship, if at all. I love to know what makes other religions tick. It is completely fascinating to me.
I think after today, I am highly considering a minor in Philosophy with a concentration in Religion. You know, on top of my wanting to be an elementary teacher. How interesting will this be? :P
Haha, anyhow. That is my thought of the day.
What do you think? About my thoughts, religion, or whatever! Let me know, I;d love to hear what other peoples takes on religion are! ^.^

Keep on keepin' on!

i agree with your thoughts on religion. i'm also a self-proclaimed agnostic.

however, my definition of agnostic, at least in my head, is "yes, there is a higher being out there, and i have no idea of knowing who or what it is, or what religion they belong to, if any, and so someone please show me some proof so i can stop being agnostic and make a decision."

i enjoy your blog. i will be a full time reader, for sure. oh, and welcome.

cheers,
sank

Thank you! That means a lot to me. I do completely agree with your definition as well. It just want to find something that makes sense to me, and does not completely disband my moral values, and things that I feel are very important to me. Until that thing comes along, I'm going to keep searching!
