Good Morning, good morning the little bird says!
Thursday. 11.5.09 7:18 am
Almost every morning, I remember something that happened when I was a freshman in high school. Now, of course that ship has sailed and I've been out of high school for two years. But it amazes me, that I remember the most odd-ball stuff.
I was a part of marching band throughout high school. During band camp, we had a day known as "Rat Day". I'm not sure if you're familiar with this concept, but it's pretty much where a senior in band picks a freshman (or freshmen) and they basically just pick on them all day. Nothing bad, nothing wrong. Just good fun. The day before Rat Day, we were all going to a local Drum Corps show so we ended up staying awake till about 12am or so. Well, much to our surprise, ALL the upperclassmen had gone out really early in the morning and completely destroyed the field. I'm talking, shaving cream, shredded newspaper, plastic wrap, the works. It all covered the already wet ground. So, the freshman or "rats" got to get up around 5 or 6 (I honestly don't remember which) to clean it before we started marching at like, 9. But lucky us, we got to get up, and they dressed us up in costumes, put lipstick on our faces that said "rat" and gave us our orders from the day. As if that wasn't enough to pretty much kill all of our spirits (especially that early in the morning!) we were made to sing a song.
A song? In the morning?
Yes, a song.
One of our seniors was involved with a camp and decided that she was going to teach us a song that they sang every morning.
It goes a little something like this:
"Way up in the sky, the little birds fly! And down in the nest, the little birds rest.
"I'm so sleepy!"
The big sun comes up! The dew goes away.
"Good morning, good morning!" the little birds say!"

Oh, it was complete with hand motions and everything. And when you're not a morning person, it was that much more fun
/sarcasm.
Anyhow, I thought I should share that little memory with you. It's always on my mind in the morning, and I figured since I'm awake so early (thank you, college) that it'd be nice to blog about it.

Keep on keepin' on :)

Wow, we definitely didn't have anything like Rat Day at my high school. Our administration didn't really believe in carrying on traditions like that.... (they wouldn't let us have a senior prank D:)

hahah! oh man, it definitely wasn't as bad as it sounds, trust me. The kids before me had it a lot worse. Now, at the school, they don't do it anymore. It really brought everyone together to form a more close-knit family.
like, kids 2/3 years older than me were saran wrapped and stuffed in trashcans and rolled down hills. no one ever complained because it was just too much fun!
and thank you for all the warm welcomes! ^.^
