It was a cool, clear night as she stepped outside of her house; purse and car keys in hand. Like every night, she stepped into her car and headed for work. Tonight, she sensed something different...somehow; she wasn't sure how. She expected the roads to be empty, like every other night. But tonight, the roads were alive with construction workers working late. The street was filled with their talk of where certain things went, while others were talked about their family, and yet others mumbled to themselves.

She slowed down to turn into 5th Street, pulling into her parking space. She parked her car in her parking space, and got out of her car. She then began her short walk to the door, which would lead her into a busy room filled with kids of all ages. She never anticipated what happened next.

As she reached the door, something to the right caught her eye. She turned quickly, and as quickly as she turned, she regretted it. Whatever it was had ran into the bushes, scurrying away quickly.

She didn't know what to expect from whatever it was hiding in the bushes as she slowly made her way to the bushes. Behind her, the door opened, light shown out and into the yard she was in. A young man, about her age walked out, stood in the doorway. "What are you doing?!" The girl jumped at the sound of the voice.

"Nothing," she said. She turned her attention towards the boy, and nonchalantly bent over to tie her shoes. "Just tying my shoes. What are you doing out here?" she said, changing the subject. In the corner of her eye, she could see something slithering further into the bushes. "Could that have been a cat?" she thought. She stood up, and headed towards the boy and the door. "You better get back inside, before you get in trouble for coming out here," she gently pushed him inside the building. She was glad that he was working with her tonight. She felt too stressed to watch a bunch of kids tonight by herself.
