Gas!!!
Tuesday. 6.10.08 12:55 pm
Gas prices are insane! $4.55 in LA right now. $4.55. How much are they in your area?

About the same. I'm in San Jose, so of course, being Californians, we're fucked.

I paid $120 to fill up my tank yesterday. Supply and demand, my ass. There's gotta be something more to it.

The same, but I live in NYC so I take the subway everywhere. The high gas prices sneak in in other ways, though, like milk or whatever that gets trucked in is slightly more expensive now. I think Europeans still pay more (like $7-$10 after converting?), though, but their cars are more fuel-efficient

OH wow, its like almost $4 around this neck of the woods, around Central Virginia
» CPKviperpheonix on 2008-06-10 08:13:52

It's still only $3.89 here, but it's about to be at $4.

So depressing. I'm going to have to get a gas station credit card.

Mine is RM2.70 per liter but I'm all the away in Malaysia and it is definitely cheaper after you've changed it to USD but its expensive to us...

An old Expedition. I'm buying a new car soon, though.

Re:bluetopaz's comment--

Yeah, the Europeans pay more, but it's not that their cars are necessarily more fuel efficient, it's that they aren't nearly as dependent on their cars as Americans are. Suburban sprawl's hitting everywhere, but America is the King of Sprawl. (A fucking dubious honor.)

According to Moavenzadeh et al. (2002):

"One study characterized cities...according to automobile dependence. Most US...cities had high to very high...dependence on automobiles. Most European cities demonstrated moderate to low dependence...[and] had not only efficient public transportation systems, but also a walking city center with high concentrations of shops and businesses."

Luckily, the place I'm hoping to move into in San Diego is walking distance from groceries and a train station, and is one stop away from school, so I won't have to spend too much on gas any longer. (Because, man, it's been pissing me the fuck off!)
