Birthday cards
Wednesday. 9.2.09 9:01 am
Let me give a bit of a background....
Today is my birthday.
My boyfriend gave me an awesome present.
He's paying for me to take Contemporary lyrical dance classes. (I've always wanted to take dance classes again but could never afford them)
I knew about the gift ahead of time because he didn't want to pay for a class I couldn't attend

anyway...so its my birthday and I just wanted to know if anyone thought I was asking too much of him for wanting a card or something as well?

Don't get me wrong...I love my gift and it cost over $100 I don't really want him to spend anymore money.
But it's still nice to receive SOMETHING on my actual birthday.
I was at least expecting a card.
It's still early in the day but I asked him about it and he said he felt no need to give me a card because he already got me a gift.
I'm not asking for a $5 hallmark card but he could have at least MADE a card.
am I asking for too much or does everyone agree that it's a little ridiculous?

I'm a little more than upset.
but I can't talk to him about it.
It's useless.
He'll just say that I am being greedy and that I'm not greatful for my gift and blah blah blah.
and maybe I am all of those things.
But maybe I'm not and maybe he's just being a huge ass.

haha. it sounded all serious until you called him a "huge ass."

I usually only expect a card if they haven't given me a present at all. Otherwise it's just a nice gesture on a piece of dead tree.

Personally I'd just be happy with the present, but I don't know how your relationship works.

I mean I AM happy with the present. and I don't even really want a card. But a nice gesture or something....he didn't even hug me or anything.

cards are a nice gesture. especially when they're hand-made because then it shows they actually put thought into it. even though I like getting cards, I'd rather just get a gift of some sort or just a simple "happy birthday." the cards I collect usually end up in storage

either way, I can understand where you're coming from.

and happy birthday!

Happy Birthday!

I think it's fine for you to want to card as well. It may not seem like a big deal to some people but that tiny little detail can mean a lot. Personally, getting a card means so much more than just getting a gift. Gifts usually only require money while a card requires a bit more thought.
