"Scotchy Scotch Scotch"...
Friday. 8.6.04 8:49 pm
This week has gone fairly well, much to my surprise. I worked two 8 hour days at a DG on Hepburn St. in Wil Po, which was awesome because Karen wasn't there. I was complimented by the district manager and another manager for being a hard worker, etc. I couldn't help myself, I blurted out "yeah, it's amazing what a little employee morale will do". The best was finding out exactly how much everyone else hates Karen and were more than glad that she's gone after today. The other manager, Valerie, said she'd be happy to have Sean and me work in her store if we weren't going back to school, and asked if she could call us to go to other stores to help out. I actually enjoyed working on Monday and Tuesday because the managers weren't lazy fucks who just bitched and told everyone else what to do. Both John (the dist. manager) and Valerie were cleaning out the back room, unloading stock, etc. I like people like that--they're great to work for. Also, it was very nice to get 16 hours in, since I would've only had about 9 from Karen the Hut.

Wednesday I went down to Hershey to go along with my mom to her appointment. Afterwards, we left and headed over to the Wal-Mart in Mechanicsburg to wait for my Aunt Laura to get off of work. We got there around 5:15, but she was scheduled until 6. So, we walked around the store, I picked up another Dan Brown book (Deception Point), then we waited. While we were waiting, there was a freakin monsoon outside, it was nuts. We were sitting on benches a good 20-30 yards from the doors, but the wind and rain were so intense that we were getting sprayed with the mist. At one point, the entire supercenter went black, but the power came back on almost right away. Luckily, by the time my Aunt was finally done, the storm had passed over, so we left and my cousin and her daughter and a nephew of mine showed up to meet up to go out to eat. So, we all went out to eat, which wasn't too bad, but the kids are freakin rowdy, so it would've been more enjoyable if it was just my Aunt (like my mom had originally planned).

I should backtrack, to explain the progression of my mom's frustration and stress over our two day trip. Originally, my mom made plans to stay with my Aunt Jeannette in Carlisle. However, my Aunt calls the night before and tells my mom she has to work a double shift so my mom can't stay there. So, then my mom calls her sister Laura to meet up with her, and she says yeah, but she'll only wait 15 minutes and if we're not there she's going home. We found that funny when we got there and waited well over an hour for her to get off of work, and then she says that she's going shopping with Jackie (my cousin) after we eat, to which my mom thinks "oh, but you weren't gonna wait for us, yet you're staying to go shopping".

Anyway, after we eat, Jackie and my aunt go shopping, so my mom and I go to my grandmother's in Carlisle. While I'm there I call up Alyssa to hang out (which is a good thing, since her fam isn't coming up to go to their cabin, so I probably wouldn't have seen her til next summer or so). Alyssa comes over with her friend Mike to pick me up, so my mom heads out the 30 minutes or so to Millerstown, to my aunt's house. Here, she tells me later on that she had to wait 25 minutes or so because my aunt and cousin weren't back from shopping yet. Then after that, she had to sit through the yelling and screaming of the kids and stupid conversations with our relatives. Then the next morning, my mom calls her mother to go there since we were only there the night before for about half an hour. My grandmother snaps at my mom and says well no, she doesn't want anyone coming over, she has stuff to do, etc. So, my mom says to her "you don't want your daughter to come visit you then?", and she says "well, you have to understand I have things to do". Then, as my mom suspected, my aunt didn't work a double shift, she ended up going to Sherman's Dale to get my cousin Hope's medical papers or something, but worked in the morning, so my mom could've stayed there. My mom ended up getting ahold of her at work and finding out the lie. Then, my cousin Jackie had asked my mom to follow us back to Williamsport to pick up my cousin Kristopher because he is gonna help them redo their carport. What's funny is that my mom talked to my aunt Pam and said why don't we just take Kristopher down with us to save Jackie a trip, but aunt Pam said smugly that no, Jackie's picking him up on Friday. Here, Kristopher called Jackie, and when she called back she talked to aunt Pam and said to pick up Kristopher anytime on Thursday. So there was the full shebang from the entire family, save my Uncle Charles, probably just because he wasn't there.

So, unfortunately, my mom didn't have a good trip at all, understandably. I had a good time, though I didn't really do much of anything. Mike and Alyssa picked me up, then we picked up Meg Z and we drove to Camp Hill (since the movies were closed with no power in Carlum) and saw Anchorman. Man, that was such a funny movie. Will Ferrel never ceases to amuse me. After that, Mike left, so Alyssa, Meg Z and myself drove around and stopped at the Wal-Mart in Carlisle, where I ran into my Uncle Charles, oddly enough. After that we drove some more and hit up Taco Bell at 11:45, heh. You can't turn down a good burrito, even if it is almost midnight. After that we chilled and watched some tv, and got sucked into watching the stupid people on Blind Date, but switched and watched some Conan and other quality programs. That was about the extent of our excitement. We were all practically passing out before 2, so Meg Z went home, Alyssa went into her house and passed out, and I rocked the fold-out couch bed in the little one room guest house kind of thing they have. It's def a cool place to just go and chill and watch tv and whatnot away from the actual house. The next morning, basically just got up and got around, grubbed, then left to meet up with my mom at the thrift store in Newport. I found a random green soccor jersey that I, for some reason, like, so I got that. After lookin through the place, my mom and I left and came home. As you read, I didn't exactly do anything exciting, but I still had an awesome time. That's what I love about my old school friends--you can sit around and practically do nothing, but still have an awesome time.

Today was, surprisingly, not a bad day at all. I worked both jobs today; I worked DG from 9-noon, then the hotel from 2-5. My plan was to go in and harass the shit out of Karen, but she didn't do anything today to warrant it--it was really strange. It kinda sucked, since I was all set to give her hell, but I couldn't just be mean without her at least saying something. So, that weirdness aside, all I did was run register and do some stocking up front. I left at noon and went home to change into my Radisson attire, then left and deposited my massive $13 check, then went out for Chinese. After that, went to the hotel and ran into Tom. I wasn't sure if he was still working there because I saw he was scheduled at all this week, but he's working in maintenance because the one guy is having surgery on his shoulder. Oddly enough, I actually missed working there. I was laying that shit down. I was supposed to be working with Ty, but he didn't show up until 4, at which point I had already finished the one room, and had the second and third halfway done. I like that job for the fact that I know it well and therefore do it damn well, plus, I make a hell of a lot more money there than at DG. And the good streak continued, cuz Ty asked me if I wanted his hours on Sunday, and without hesitation I was like hellz yeah (which came out more like "yes, that'd be good", but you know what I mean). So, despite worthless mcmanager, I'm getting hours now, which is nice.

Aside from work, going back to friends, I want to make another trip up to hang out with Dave and Amy (and steal that Subway sign, damnit!) and head down to Harrisburg to hang out with Crossley. If it weren't for my weekend getaways with my friends, I think I would've entirely lost my mind this summer. Thank God for my friends, because without them, this summer would've been too terrible to bear. I'm still mr. "I don't have a car, or a license for that matter", so I can't really make trips myself, but I extend the invite for all you'n's to come chill at SU this year. We can sit around and do nothing, but at least we'll have a good time.
