What happens from here?...
Wednesday. 7.7.04 9:15 pm
I rode along down to Hershey medical center with my mom for her consultation with the diabetic nutritionist there. We left a little before 10, and we stopped at the Amish market along 11/15. They build a whole separate building onto their existing store for their bakery, which is awesome. We looked around and my mom saw their cheese baked bread (as big as a cake) for about $3. So, we split up most of it and had lunch for $3. Can't beat that. We ended up getting to the medical center around 12:15, and here my mom's appointment wasn't scheduled until 2. We made damn good time getting there. We definitely lucked out, because some woman didn't show up, so the doctor took my mom back at 12:30. About 45 minutes later my mom comes back out, and was tellin me what the doctor was saying to her. My mom made sure to ask a bunch of questions, especially about surgery, and the doctor was pleased to hear that my mom didn't just want to go for surgery if she didn't have to (and take the "quick-fix" everyone else does). However, like all the other doctors, the nutritionist had to stop and tell my mom that she's in a dire situation. With having already undergone a radical hysterectomy at young age, suffering both a stroke and a heart attack, and being non-insulin dependent diabetic, along with the family history of diabetes, heart problems, obesity, etc., my mom really does not realize and acknowledge that she could, without warning, suffer a massive heart attack or stroke and die. I, myself, don't even realize it a lot of the time because my mom doesn't show that's she's anywhere near as sick as she is. I think it kinda hit her today when we were talking about it and she said she really doesn't want to undergo such a dire surgery, to which I reminded her that she's already in a dire situation. When I think about it, knowing that my mom will never be supported here at home, and in fact is driven to overeat by the stress and overabundance of junk food, even though it is a major surgery, I'm afraid my mom is gonna die if she doesn't do it...

oh man :-/
I support your mom and I'd be totally behind that if she went to surgery. She deserves to live a lot longer than she seems to want to let herself.

She's lost all sense of herself, and certainly isn't backed up by anyone else. She's basically forgotten how to worry about herself :-/

maybe
I should teach her some lessons about being selfish. I mean, if anybody could teach lessons on that, it's me.

I hope you know...
I am pulling for your mom. And even though I have put myself mostly out of contact with ya'll, if you need to talk, I am totally here.

I feel for you.
While I honestly can't sympathize with the entire situation, I can definitely empathize with both you, your mother..and the rest of your family. I hope for the best and pray that it finds you.
