Pig Trotter Dissection
Thursday. 11.1.07 11:39 am
Out of all the disgusting things i have ever had to dissect...hearts, lungs, kidney, maggots *shudder*, the most horrible thing was the pigs trotter we dissected in biology today. It had hair between its toe, and the end of the trotter was like a devil's foot (or how i would imagine a devil's foot to look like).
I think what made it so bad, was that it really hit home that it was part of a once living creature. Before when you dissect hearts or internal organs, it's dissociated from the fact that it is part of an animal. You know it came from an animal, but it doesnt hit home. But with the trotter, i didnt even want to touch it, let alone slice off the skin and look at the joints and cartilage >.<
It smelt so bad, i washed my hands three times and i could still smell it on my hands. Sometimes id just breathe in and id be able to smell it. I am way to sqeamish to ever be a surgeon, if i had that much trouble with a pig leg, how would i ever be able to cut into a human?? So much for my parents dream of my being a doctor XD
Although my bio teacher said that once i actually did it, i cut it very well....and that mine was the most aesthetically pleasing XD so now im considering taking pictures of dissected animal parts for my next art project. It would fit, the theme of my I.B art work has to be 'beauty', so i could do something on the beauty of the cuts into the carcass, and the symmetry of a perfect opening vs. the ugliness of death...

If i ever end up taking pictures of my dissections, ill post them for you guys to see XD just sharing the squeamishness.....

about the only thing I don't think I'd be able to disect would be a dog. Just simply because I love them too much. but I've disected all kinds of things: an owl pelet, a cow's eye, frogs, cats, squids, sharks, etc. I would have loved to go to a cadavra lab, but I moved before I got into that specific class. I anticipate the pictures, but for the sake of the squeamish, I'd warn them first lol =]

XD i have a guy in my class who dissected owl pellets for an extended essay. it was pretty cool to see all the things in them....he found mouse bones, and even corn which the mouse had probably eaten!!

Thanks!
I can't wait to see pics of the dissection. I only done that once and it was on a cow's eyeball! yuck! Imagine it staring at you! Thanks for sending me the link for the YSL make up, I don't mind shopping online :) I know it's an expensive hobby...but I can't help it. hehe

Wow. That sounds absolutely horrible. :S I wonder if I could skip that kind of stuff if I said it was against my morals...?
