cake tasting!
Monday. 3.4.13 1:28 pm
Had my first cake tasting yesterday. It went really well because FREE CAKE.

I have one more tasting scheduled for Wednesday, but I'm fairly certain I want one of the options I tried yesterday: Pink champagne cake (it's PINK ya'll) and cream cheese filling. For the first tier, anyway. For the second tier, I might try a fruit filling. Then cream cheese again for the top tier. It's from a bakery right down the street from our apartment, and they've been in Portland for years. I think since the 50s maybe. So they know what they're doing. The icing is French cream (basically butter cream) and they'll match your colors for you. So I might end up with a gray cake? Haha, I think it'll work out nicely. I guess I could always try for a gray armadillo cake, like in Steel Magnolias...

Oh, and my mom has made it clear. NO FONDANT. She's told me about a hundred times how much she HATES fondant. So I guess we're not getting fondant. I've never even had fondant! She assures me fondant is VERY BAD and that I SHOULD NOT GET A CAKE WITH FONDANT ON IT. I think she keeps forgetting she's told me about her hatred of fondant since day one.

Don't worry guys, I won't be getting any fondant on my cake.

Edward didn't have as much fun as me at the cake tasting because he ate a huge lunch! I warned him that he was gonna have to eat cake later and he didn't care, he ordered a giant hamburger anyway. And then he regretted it. Typical.

On Saturday I went on a yarn crawl with my mom and sister. I didn't buy any yarn, but they sure did! I started crocheting a cowl like, two months ago, then got frustrated with it and put it up, so I didn't need to be buying any DAMN yarn.

Anyway. I should be working! I just needed a break.

Back to it!

I always thought you had to pay for cake tastings? Or was it just that someone else paid for you? Because I remember getting really excited at the prospect of getting to try a bunch of free cake and then being disappointed to learn that they're like, expensive.

Mmm free caake. Portland is doing it right. Fruit filling/cream cheese sounds awesooome.

Fondant looks like it straight up tastes like playdo....I still want to try it though...

Unrelated- your profile pic made me laugh.

Mmmm... cake
My mom doesn't like fondant either. I agree with don't-see. It looks like the play-do you see on t.v. commercials. Except they say "fun to play with, not to eat."

After doing some quick Googling, I guess that it's kind of split between people who charge for tastings and people who don't. One of the people who charged wrote that they would apply the fee for the tasting toward the price of the full cake purchase. I suppose I'll just have to see if I can find a free place when the time comes. :P

FREEEEEE CAAAKE. The best part of wedding planning, by far.

Free cake! Sounds yummy. What exactly is a yarn crawl? Is it like a pub crawl, but with yarn and less drunkenness?

Yeah, before now I figured cremation was the best way to go, but even with that a lot of people's ashes just get stuck into urns and put into little drawers. Scattering seems best, even if people feel emotional about it. (Man, we really like to hang onto people don't we?)

I was reading this article, which is how I found out about green cemeteries in the first place, and it's not well written exactly but it's got interesting information:

THAT CAKE SOUNDS AMAZING.
Grey icing with pink cake? That'll look great! :)

I had no idea grey crows existed, but now that I've Googled them I must say, they look rather dapper.
