A few words
"When we describe the Moon as dead, we are describing the deadness in ourselves. When we find space so hideously void, we are describing our own unbearable emptiness." ~ D.H. Lawrence "Is the meaning of life defined by its duration? Or does life have a purpose so large that it doesn't have to be prolonged at any cost to preserve its meaning?" "Living is not good, but living well. The wise man, therefore, lives as well as he should, not as long as he can... He will always think of life in terms of quality not quantity... Dying early or late is of no relevance, dying well or ill is... even if it is true that while there is life there is hope, life is not to be bought at any cost." ~ Seneca "People will tell you nothing matters, the whole world's about to end soon anyway. Those people are looking at life the wrong way. I mean, things don't need to last forever to be perfect." ~ Daydream Nation "All Bette's stories have happy endings. That's because she knows where to stop. She's realized the real problem with stories-- if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death." ~ The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes "The road now stretched across open country, and it occurred to me - not by way of protest, not as a symbol, or anything like that, but merely as a novel experience - that since I had disregarded all laws of humanity, I might as well disregard the rules of traffic. So I crossed to the left side of the highway and checked the feeling, and the feeling was good. It was a pleasant diaphragmal melting, with elements of diffused tactility, all this enhanced by the thought that nothing could be nearer to the elimination of basic physical laws than deliberately driving on the wrong site of the road." ~ Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita "It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend." ~ William Blake Think about it Musicalities! I get up, at the latest, at 8 AM on weekdays, so I didn't get much sleep. -__- So, it's possible that my personal experience is totally outside the norm, but I keep reading blogs where girls complain that guys aren't serious and dance around being in relationships, and I can't help but think "I have never encountered this." Generally the complaint is something like "guys won't commit, they only want sex" or "we date indefinitely and it's unclear/ambiguous whether we're in a relationship" etc. Admittedly I have very limited dating experience, and I'm not really active in the social scene (as far as clubbing/partying goes), but is that actually representative of people my age...? Have I, just by freak chance, managed to meet guys who all wanted to be in a relationship with me right off the bat? Or is this more a case of a few people in the minority making complaints while the majority is silent? I have no idea. Sometimes I wonder if it's a personality thing. I don't drink, do drugs, or party, so maybe I seem more like the "settle down" type (which... okay, would be an accurate judgement). Maybe the kind of guys I attract are the ones who are interested in forming serious relationships. -Shrug- I also can't recall a time I was actually formally asked out by someone, unless you count in seventh grade when the guy who sat next to me leaned over and said "do you want to go see Scooby Doo 2 with me?" I always thought I was just hanging out with my first boyfriend until he suddenly told his mom I was his girlfriend over the phone one night. Second boyfriend, we were just hanging out and then it was like "whoops we are in an intimate setting how did this happen, okay let's date I guess," and with my current boyfriend he kinda just made some awkward moves and I thought it was funny so I told him we could try dating. ...Okay, nevermind, after reading all that I'm pretty sure I have just had fairly abnormal experiences. I guess this is a fairly pointless entry, but I'll leave it up anyway. Maybe some of you find it interesting to see my thought processes. >_> 7 Comments. I've met both kinds of guys. But I generally give out this vibe that in order to date me you would have to send a letter to my father asking for my hand or something, so I think guys feel that and then only serious guys try to date me. I think not drinking is huge because the energy barrier is much higher for a guy making a move. The only times I got into "ambiguous" relationships was because alcohol was involved. I think making a guy wait a really long time before he can kiss you also weeds out all of the non-serious ones. I think if you are a girl and you keep getting into relationships where the guy doesn't want to commit, you are definitely sending out the wrong vibes, whether you realize it or not. » Zanzibar on 2013-02-11 04:35:42 People are just scared to ask. Both men and women settle for someone who won't commit, and the non-committing one knows that they're doing something wrong, believe me. I'm not going to blame alcohol, or vibes, or anything like that, because that seems like shaming, to me, aaaand that isn't my experience at all, having been on BOTH sides. And anyone can get into this stuff, if they like someone enough. -shrug- I don't think there's any rhyme or reason. Date enough people and you'll manage to find something like this. » Unicornasaurus on 2013-02-11 04:58:38 Honestly, I think it's just the type of guys these women are attracted to. Women who say things like that are usually attracted to bad-boy, ruggedly handsome suave guys who are generally the type that are only into casual sex and non-committed relationships. The ones who do want to be in committed, serious relationships are the quiet type. Often nerdy or at least smarter than their peers. The more mature type. The type that girls don't find attractive at early ages. I lucked out with my girlfriend. We're both into serious relationships, and we're both mature for our ages. » Praetorian on 2013-02-11 06:12:58 A dry sauna has no humidity, just heat. It's still nice. You know, they told me that the reason I didn't meet those sorts of people was because my standards were too high and I was intimidating, which scared away any potential "flings". I was alright with that. Don't lower your standards! » ikimashokie on 2013-02-11 07:02:50 Yeah, its a little weird to both of us. In ideal circumstances we both wanted to meet first. However I messed that up by moving to Texas again. (I knew better but I pretended I didn't because I didn't want to know) I also hope it works out. (: » AmbyrJayde on 2013-02-12 09:21:55 When I first started dating I was way too flirty and bubbly so unfortunately I sort of ended up being that ambiguous, not really committing, talking to a bunch of guys at once type of person. Luckily, even though I had lots of...lets just call it "options" I never physically let anything go anywhere until I was in a serious long-term relationship. Bottom line, a lot of it has to do with maturity. I was really immature back then and when I started to get my act together I stopped being that way. People that are still really big on the party scene and like to drink a lot and go to bars all the time will either run into those types of people or be those types of people. » SporadicFunk on 2013-02-12 10:38:25 I've only ever been in committed relationships, so can't speak much to those who feel like the person they like is a flake. I've known some people who date casually, but they don't want serious relationships so I don't hear them complain too much. Edward and I met at a party but he didn't ask me out or for my number that night. He ended up asking a mutual friend of ours for my number, then asked me out for coffee. My dad showed up to our date on accident, it was hilarious. » Amelie on 2013-02-12 04:05:12
