I am still so sore from yesterday!
The day had started out pretty well. I was in high spirits as I was excited for practice that evening. Just getting to play music as a band again after a two week hiatus due to problems with a couple of members' schedules. And we were trying out a new lead singer. We'd talked on the phone and he definitely seemed like someone we'd get along with very well...personally and musically. But then I became depressed when thinking of how badly
invisibleinkling (Jenn) wanted to sing for us. I will tell you that her voice is amazing and I love it to death but her current vocal style just didn't fit the sound quite as well as I think some others' could. But we'd definitely invited her to do some backing vocals and she may end up doing the lead depending on how things go down the road. But yes...I was depressed.
So at lunch I went to the mall where Jenn works. I was stopping in to say hello and her boss actually told her that she could take her break. I had chinese (YAY!) and we shared some boardwalk fries...I'd given her my eggroll hehe We talked it over and I felt better when we left. And of course it was just good to see her.
Then i went back to work and had to clean up an aisle containing nothing but ready-to-assemble cabinets and cabinet doors. Talk about heavy. One of the store associates had started out helping me but then he had to help a sudden onslaught of customers. So I was lifting 50-100 boxes myself to put on the shelves as well as running up a rolling ladder to take them out of the overheads, carry them down and put them on the shelves. When I was done...I hurt like hell.
After work I picked up Jenn from the mall. We stopped at 7-Eleven to get the drinks I need for work and I bought her soda and a burrito for while I was at practice. We got home and I threw everything into boxes and bags and then took a shower. Then I flew out the door to get to practice. I don't know how I did it but I made to Manayunk (Philadelphia) from Lansdale in seriously record time. I don't know how I did it. But I picked up Chad at the Manayunk train station and we drove over to the practice studio.
I wasn't sure if Chris (the potential singer) would make it out but I got a call saying that he was on his way which made us very happy hah John showed up but Brian (our bassit) missed his train so we'd have to practice for an hour without him. We figured that we could spend the hour without Brian by playing our music and hearing what Chris could do and then we could play a couple songs after Brian got there so he could hear Chris and then we could run through our set as rehearsal for our show on October 6th.
He sounded great and it had the passion that we were looking for but lacking with John. Clip of the night (John after hearing the first song Chris sang for us: "I see...you put emotion into it")...that was a big DUH! And Chad and I laughed about it plenty on the way home haha Well we started with commenting on how great he sounded with the music. We wanted to play more songs so we could hear what he could do with them and I guess we'd given him less direct feedback because we wanted to fit all of our songs in. Well Brian called telling us that he'd be at the station in a couple of minutes to get picked up. John went to go get him and Chris asked to use the studio's bathroom. Chad showed him and went into another room. A couple of minutes later i saw Chris go out the main door to the outside and thought maybe he wanted some of the cool fresh air outside until Brian got back. After John arrived with Brian I went up to see if Chris was ready to go and I didn't see him.
I went back into the practice room and saw that he had taken his mic. I called him. Got voicemail so I left a message. I'd called a few more times throughout the night but just got voicemail. I sent a message through myspace to him after we got home (also in record time) asking if he didn't like us or the music or if it was a case of him thinking that he was wasting our time because we weren't giving as much feedback. I guess we could have explained beforehand that we were going to play through the songs to try to get them all in before Brian called. But everything seemed great and we couldn't wait for Brian to hear. The message I sent explained everything so that if it was true that he thought that we weren't interested, he'd know how incorrect that was.
So we'll see how that goes.
On the other side of things...finally heard back from a band about opening for us! They said that they'd love to. So I am going to call the singer after work to discuss some stuff but most likely they'll be opening our show for us! I will post a link to their site if it turns out to work out..but most likely it will. So then I can call the venue and verify the finished lineup.
Well it's time to get my hurting self to work. But I will be back after work while I undoubtedly wait for some pain reliever to kick in! Have a great day! And lemme hear some noise!

I figured that I would type up a short entry before I got my shower and left for work. Today is definitely going to be a coffee day. No choice! And while I am not a huge fan of 7-Eleven coffee, I can't say enough about their Caramel and Praline creamer. DELICIOUS! But I will definitely be needing something. I'll be taking an extra energy drink for after practice so I can drive us home safely.
I'll get home from work around 5:30, get all of my gear together, get something to eat and then head out around 6:45pm. It's a big practice as we've missed the past week due to a couple schedule conflicts so we couldn't practice over the weekend. Although these are technically rehearsals and not really practices but it's really only a slight difference. We should have a prospective singer trying out..and we'll see how that goes. And that brings up some other things which I'll get to another time.
Alright. This has been short enough and I need to shower and jet. I will be around for a bit before practice and then maybe a little afterwards..but we'll see. Have a great, great day!
