You're unsure if I am a loose end or a strand
that waits for you to mend or understand
A few words
"When we describe the Moon as dead, we are describing the deadness in ourselves. When we find space so hideously void, we are describing our own unbearable emptiness."
~ D.H. Lawrence

"Is the meaning of life defined by its duration? Or does life have a purpose so large that it doesn't have to be prolonged at any cost to preserve its meaning?"

"Living is not good, but living well. The wise man, therefore, lives as well as he should, not as long as he can... He will always think of life in terms of quality not quantity... Dying early or late is of no relevance, dying well or ill is... even if it is true that while there is life there is hope, life is not to be bought at any cost."
~ Seneca

"People will tell you nothing matters, the whole world's about to end soon anyway. Those people are looking at life the wrong way. I mean, things don't need to last forever to be perfect."
~ Daydream Nation

"All Bette's stories have happy endings. That's because she knows where to stop. She's realized the real problem with stories-- if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death."
~ The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes

"The road now stretched across open country, and it occurred to me - not by way of protest, not as a symbol, or anything like that, but merely as a novel experience - that since I had disregarded all laws of humanity, I might as well disregard the rules of traffic. So I crossed to the left side of the highway and checked the feeling, and the feeling was good. It was a pleasant diaphragmal melting, with elements of diffused tactility, all this enhanced by the thought that nothing could be nearer to the elimination of basic physical laws than deliberately driving on the wrong site of the road."
~ Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita

"It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend."
~ William Blake

Grades!
Saturday, December 22, 2012
I got all As! Yay! And I even got an A+ in the class I was so afraid I would get a B in. Double yay!

Another 4.0 quarter. Unfortunately, my GPA will always be haunted by my first semester grades at St. John's, so while my cumulative GPA for community college is 3.98 (Curse you, A- in General Oceanography!), my overall GPA with transfer grades factored in is 3.93. :\ When I applied to a university recently I reported my GPA as 3.98, so I hope they don't have a problem with that...

I saw The Hobbit last night with friends. At first we went to an AMC, but the theatre was so crowded that we couldn't find seats together. We ended up getting a refund and going to a different theatre, which was practically empty. It was a little more expensive, but it's also a much larger theatre with a bigger screen. I remember going to see the first Pokemon movie there when I was in third grade, and standing in a line that went around the outside of the building to get in... They were giving out free shiny Pokemon cards with the tickets.

The movie was decent, I thought. I had some issues with the timeline concerning the dwarven occupation of Moria, but after the movie we looked it up on Wikipedia in Jasper's car and it was resolved. See, in Lord of the Rings, the fellowship goes to Moria, and there aren't any dwarves there, but Gimli says there will be, and in The Hobbit, which happens sixty years prior to Lord of the Rings, they say that Moria has already fallen... So I didn't understand how Gimli could be saying there would be dwarves there if it had been abandoned for over sixty years. It turns out that Gimli was talking about a colony that had attempted to set up in Moria, but the colony failed.

...Anyway. I have some pictures that have been accumulating on my phone...

At the child development center/preschool I've been volunteering at, one of the families of the kids put on a dance show...

Of course, being as young as they are, the kids didn't have the patience to sit through the whole thing and got very antsy towards the end.

I went to Fresh & Easy with my parents, and apparently all the potatoes there are individually shrink wrapped.

My dad insisted the guy on this box was a woman, and said "look, there are boobs!"

At one of the local asian markets, I was looking through the bakery section and they had these...

And finally, one of the kids at the school gave me a present! It's a snowman shaped cake pop.

Judging by the lumpiness of the pop I'm guessing it's homemade, which is really impressive.

I also got bars of scented soap in a bag and a tin of asian cookies as gifts from the kids. Not individualized gifts or anything, just the kind that all the teachers get. Still I was surprised, since I totally didn't expect to get anything.

Oh, and on Friday, one of the three year old girls told me I was her favorite teacher. I felt so special. :) I also had two kids kinda fighting to sit on my lap during story time, and a couple more on the sides just sitting next to me. It's a nice feeling.

I'm still not done Christmas shopping... agh. Need to get one or two more things for my boyfriend and something for my dad...

The dance looks really neat! And the snowman cakepop is very impressive, I've tried to make them once and it is much harder than it looks.
