A few words
"When we describe the Moon as dead, we are describing the deadness in ourselves. When we find space so hideously void, we are describing our own unbearable emptiness." ~ D.H. Lawrence "Is the meaning of life defined by its duration? Or does life have a purpose so large that it doesn't have to be prolonged at any cost to preserve its meaning?" "Living is not good, but living well. The wise man, therefore, lives as well as he should, not as long as he can... He will always think of life in terms of quality not quantity... Dying early or late is of no relevance, dying well or ill is... even if it is true that while there is life there is hope, life is not to be bought at any cost." ~ Seneca "People will tell you nothing matters, the whole world's about to end soon anyway. Those people are looking at life the wrong way. I mean, things don't need to last forever to be perfect." ~ Daydream Nation "All Bette's stories have happy endings. That's because she knows where to stop. She's realized the real problem with stories-- if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death." ~ The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes "The road now stretched across open country, and it occurred to me - not by way of protest, not as a symbol, or anything like that, but merely as a novel experience - that since I had disregarded all laws of humanity, I might as well disregard the rules of traffic. So I crossed to the left side of the highway and checked the feeling, and the feeling was good. It was a pleasant diaphragmal melting, with elements of diffused tactility, all this enhanced by the thought that nothing could be nearer to the elimination of basic physical laws than deliberately driving on the wrong site of the road." ~ Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita "It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend." ~ William Blake Think about it Musicalities! Kill that boredom!

It's things like this that make me realize I don't hate learning, I just hate the things I'm forced to learn. :P Also reinforces the scorn I have for my so-called Philosophy class, which is just Theology with a few other things thrown in. 2 Comments. I always appreciate a well-thought atheist argument. The third video...it has a few holes, but I can understand that. Intangible Christianity sometimes makes itself hard to argue against. Generally, interesting. Thanks for posting them. :] » Unicornasaurus on 2010-02-02 10:50:21 The first two were pretty good. Though the style bothered me somehow. The third one starts with an assumption that is too widely spread: that Hell is an arbitrary state of punishment for an arbitrary wrongdoing (unbelief). A) In a book I read recently, God is talking to a man who asks how God can love everybody and still send them to Hell. God said, "I don't have to punish you for sin. Sin is its own punishment." Hell is just spiritual death. Think of it as the absence of God. As if, when we chose independence from God, we walk out of his house...and outside there be monsters. I dunno about all this Lake of Fire stuff...but it isn't some random hole in the ground where God sends you if you mess up. If you drink poison, you die. Nobody kills you. B) People aren't going to Hell because they don't believe in God. That's stupid. You know that's stupid. Most Christians know that's stupid. It's not true. It's an over simplification and it's infuriating. Everyone's supposed to be damned because it's what we choose. Sin and all that. It's not like God just wants everyone to believe in him, so he makes up sin as an excuse to smite everybody. In fact, believing in God isn't even what's important. You have to believe, but you also have to trust him with everything, whether it be your well being, your friends, your family, even your life. Believing in God isn't hard at all for most people. Trusting him with your soul is tough to do. So you start with little things. "I trust you to save me." And he starts making the rest easier. So yeah. I know you don't like to hear this, but I haven't gone through this with you in a while so I hope you don't mind terribly. » middaymoon on 2010-02-03 12:02:25
