The current thing seems to be that if you go to a CC, it's assumed that you are "taking classes", i.e., you didn't do well in high school and won't amount to much.

If you use the CC to take base classes like english/history/calc, people will definitely give you the "zomg but you could do so much more".

As far as college weight, I put on a good 30 lbs, at least. That made for great fun with the family. The funny thing was I didn't eat much on campus, because I was picky and such. I bought a lot of things from the grocery and ate them. The kitchens in the dorms let a ton to be desired, especially since you had to keep all of your own pots and pans in a tiny room with everything else you and your roommate owned, so I ate a lot of super-packaged food.

You can technically transfer out of community college anytime you want, but the nice thing about community colleges is that they might have articulation agreements with other colleges and universities that basically tells you what classes you should take for what major in whatever college you want to transfer to.

I went to Foothill for my A.A. in Anthropology (for shiggles) over two years and knew people who went there specifically to save money and to transfer into another program somewhere else. Many of the people at Foothill end up going to Berkeley or UCLA or another UC, and there are a bunch who also make it into Stanford, which is not to say that you should go there because you can transfer into these "awesome" schools, but it's just an illustration that a bunch of kids who do go to community college aren't idiots... they're just pragmatic.

Typically, people transfer out with at least 2 years' worth of college credit. That's two years you can spend trying to figure out where you really want to go and what you really want to do with your life.

I feel you on the first part.
I'm in higher classes, but I'm not an over-achiever for sure. But I mean, there's absolutely nothing wrong with going to a tech/community college first to see all options. I might even do that, if I find that I don't want to be in business or languages.

yeah im a junior this year and i heard about the transfer thing....... i heard alot of ppl take the basic classes they need to take (ie chemisty, Calculus, etc) and they go to comunity college and take them cause its cheaper and then transfer.

Thinking of the future, near or far, frustrates me too. It keeps me up at night and makes me more miserable than I already am. We can't help not having those feelings since we have no clear direction on where we are going to. I hope you will be able to decide on where to go or what to do soon.

if communiy college is as good as any other uni and colleges i dont see why not considering it... my sister... my manager's daughter also went to a community college. and my manager is damn rich and yet she sent her daughter to study in a college that has the lowest price. so i guess quality comes first.

Hey, $11 an hour is pretty good for starting pay. Especially considering that most of my job entails sitting on my ass. lol. So I'm not complaining.
