Fox News Question:Are You "Selfish" if you don't want to "Spread the wealth"?

I heard this question on fox news this morning and decided to post it. Well, I think you are because we're doing that anyways. People are worried about paying more taxes due to the state of the economy. Those that are rich need to realize that regardless of what happens in the economy your not going to change your lifestyle. It's going to be the people with less who are going to have to change their lifestyles. This show on fox news talked about how China and Iran has lower taxes but you got to think about all the things we are able to do here. China may be about growth but they control more of what their people do like Iran. We have more freedom in the U.S.A which means we have to put money towards keeping us safe. Let's say if we all stop paying taxes what would happen to our economy it would be destroyed. There would be no national security any country would be able to attack us, right. So it's like were investing in the security and well-being of our people here in America. We also kind of paying to do almost anything we want to do in life.
I feel that if someone is making millions that shouldn't be paying less taxes than me, and I also feel that the media is misleading about why some countries outsource. Cost of operate in America is way higher than China plus the wages are low. Higher or lower taxes is going to stop a company from moving to another country. Now if the government can make materials and other supplies companies need in order to operate than they can actually stop our jobs from going overseas. I don't think the taxes is going to stop anything. I know this because I'm in the accounting industry and this is what I learning in cost accounting.
COMMUNIST!
Kidding.
I'm right there with you. If someone makes a shitload of money, they should pay more taxes than someone struggling to get by.

Rich people always pay more taxes than poor people. The question is just by how much. You could say that the tax rate is 20% and if you made $20,000 in a year, you'd pay $4000. If you made $20,000,000 that year, you'd pay $4 million in taxes. That's technically a "flat tax", even though the rich person pays more taxes by a factor of 1000. Or you could say that rich people should pay more like 1/3rd of their income as taxes and poor people should pay more like 1/10th, which would mean that every third hour that person worked would go directly to the government. It's all wealth redistribution, really, because the people who pay the majority of taxes benefit from very few of the things that those taxes pay for. The top 25% of taxpayers pay something like 85% of the taxes, a huge amount of which goes into medicare, medicaid, and welfare. You're definitely right that the country couldn't function if there was no tax, but you can definitely see how taxing shapes the country, like how rich people move to Florida where there is no income tax, or how every credit card company imaginable is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware where they have very favorable tax laws for companies. I think people who don't want to share the wealth are selfish, yes, but I think a lot of people would like to choose for themselves how to redistribute their wealth, rather than the government choosing for them. That way when they work that third hour they feel like they're working to do something good for others, instead of just feeling like they're wasting their time.
