Is Lil' Flip's "I Need Mine" A Potential Flop?
Sunday. 10.15.06 4:34 pm
According to Overture, there were only 599 searches for Lil' Flip's I Need Mine last month. Out of those 599, more than half are probably looking to bootleg the album. Flipperachi's career is on life support right now.
Hey, don't shoot the messenger.
But, before you get to slaughtering Flipper with all sorts of un-googleable epithets, here are some things to keep in mind:
-Flip was the first among his peers to taste national success
-He paved the way for the likes of Chamillionaire, Slim Thug and Paul Wall
-He ditched former manager Hump because of alleged financial misconduct and established his own Clover G imprint
-He's dropped two successful (read: platinum) albums under the Sony/Columbia umbrella
-He parted ways with Sony owing to a series of allegations, particularly one about poor promotion of his product
-The original version of I Need Mine was slapped with an "M" rating in XXL, replete with lines like "lackluster effort," "clichéd, forgettable..." and "impotent pickup lines."
I wonder if his marketing/promotion is all kosher now that he's with Asylum/Warner, seeing as I didn't even realize dude had an album coming out in November.
Word to those 599 people.
