Controversial R. Kelly Sex Case Finally Goes To Trial
    Friday. 10.13.06 5:16 am

hursday - October 12, 2006 by Anthony Roberts
WAIST DEEP DVD - IN STORES NOW
    R Kelly

Over four years after initially being arrested and charged, R&B superstar R. Kelly is finally set to stand trial beginning this Friday (October 13) on multiple child pornography charges.

    R. Kelly (born Robert Kelly) is set to stand trial in Illinois' Cook County Court on 14 counts of child pornography stemming from a video tape released in February of 2002 by an unknown source and sent to the Chicago Sun-Times. The video allegedly shows the Grammy Award-winning crooner engaging in sex with an underage female. Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan will be presiding over the case.

The video allegedly features Kelly with the then 14 year-old niece of Sparkle, one of the singer's former artists and proteges. Since his arrest, Kelly has vigorously denied that the man in the video is actually him. The alleged victim and her parents have also publicly denied that she is the person on the tape. The video, which was widely bootlegged and made available to the public, furthered wide spread debate and opinion on whether or not the man in the video was indeed Kelly.

Indicted in June of 2002, R. Kelly was initially facing 21 counts but seven were later dropped.

The R&B thug also faced 12 counts of child pornography in Polk County, Florida in January of 2003 after police searched the singer's home and found a digital camera containing 12 images of an underage female. Three of the images were said to show Kelly involved in a sexual act, but those charges were later dropped after a judge ruled that the evidence was seized illegally.

Be sure to check out SOHH's exclusive coverage of the R. Kelly trial, starting tomorrow, October 13th.

Update: Source Sex Verdict Official, Osorio Wins $8 Mil
    Thursday. 11.2.06 9:49 am

Wednesday - November 1, 2006 by Brandi Hopper
    The Source - July 2003

It's still a multi-million dollar win for Kim Osorio, but the jilted former editor-in-chief of The Source is only entitled to about half the money she and her lawyers thought she was awarded.

As previously reported by SOHH, The Source's lawyer, Mercedes Colwin, and counsel for the magazine's former co-owners, David Mays and Raymond "Benzino" Scott, called the dollar amount into question in court yesterday (October 31) after a $15.5 million verdict was widely reported in media outlets across the country.

Apparently the plaintiff's attorneys misunderstood the verdict.

After considering an appeal from Osorio's lawyers Kenneth Thompson and Doug Wigdor to recall the jury in order to clarify the verdict, Judge Jed S. Rakoff shut them down and issued his final judgement: Osorio was actually awarded $8 million, not $15.5 million. The amount breaks down to $3.5 million against Benzino for defamation, $4 million for retaliation from Benzino, Mays and The Source together and around $500,000 for lost wages.

Osorio was not awarded any money for her charges of hostile work environment or sexual harassment.

You Gotta Respect It: Young Jeezy and Ludacris are the Real Deal
    Thursday. 11.2.06 9:53 am
A lot of people have been trashing ATL for the snap music heatwave that lasted for *snap* this long, and that vulgar Reckless character has done his best to ravage, demolish, and denounce whatever credibilty the South has ever had. But the snap sub-genre, despite its popularity and airwave control, has never really sold that many records. If you think about it, D4L struggled to hit 400K after months of release, and Dem Franchize Boys just barely topped gold before they fell off the charts and failed to make a return in the sales department even after their third single was released.

    Changing lanes...

Now, if you look at Luda's past album sales and his current Soundscan takeover, T.I's digits, Jeezy's last album selling 1.5 mill, and his upcoming sophomore LP building more buzz than "Soul Survivor," its easy to differentiate their style of rap music, which has more of a real feel to it; the better the quality, the better the sales. Outkast, Gnarls Barkley -- this is what I call real music. It's different, and it's sometimes off the meter when measuring the realms of what hip-hop music should be, but these people are pushing units. Whether they're wearing diapers (not a good look) or white wigs, they're giving the people what they want: Real music.

Just a thought. Like them or not, you gotta respect it. This is why the South is on top. And in the name of these artists, it is a well-deserved title. That other bull sh*t I can't really co-sign.

And by the way, you would never guess who this is. Let's just say that in my blog, nothing is ever censored.

    Shout out to SOHH Southern.

Luda looks good in that picture...Thank goodness he didn't sign to Bad Boys when he was first starting out!!!

    Posted by: barbaraa.jackson at November 1, 2006 10:39 AM

I have been a Luda fan since his first album. I buy every single album that drops on the day it drops. I am from New Jersey and most of my friends listen to southern rappers before we even fuck with East Coast/NYC rappers.

Jeezy album was refreshing and his style is hot. His album was fire and I cant wait til the next one.

Many reasons can attribute to why the south is "runnin' thangs" right now, but the main reason is the South is putting out great music. HANDS DOWN!

I keep telling people, STOP SLEEPING ON LUDACRIS!!! lyrically, the man is a problem. And when you can dish out club bangers at the same time, you got a bonafide superstar.

Irv Gotti Clearing Up Rumors? New Leaked Music From Nas, Ghostface, and Hov
    Thursday. 11.2.06 10:13 am
First off, I'm not 100% sure this is a message from Irv Gotti himself, but this is a blog for gossip and the unconfirmed. So....

Irv Gotti posted a message on the Murder Inc. news site around 3 a.m. this morning. He basically talked about upcoming projects and cleared up the rumors about his newest pop signeee Vanessa Carlton. He says he and "V" are not involved as a couple like everyone is saying. And that is definitely not the reason she came over to the Inc. Irv told the fans that "The Game and Murder Inc is like that now. Me and Rule speak to Game all the time." So I guess Game is buddy buddy with the Inc now. Game and Weezy F.will be on several tracks of Ja Rule's upcoming album as well. That ought to be interesting.

    Here's the exact message:

Its your boy Irv Gotti. I have been posting stuff on my new artist Vanessa "V" Carltons site. And I just seen that someone posted that I should post on here since I am posting on there. I felt that. but I feel you guys on here know me already. and the people on V's site need to get to know me. but I kind of like interacting with the people. I'm feeling it. so I will be on here from time to time to see what my people are saying and thinking. I gotta be honest. yall say some pretty funny shhiiittt. NO. I am not fuuuccckkiiing V. I have a great relationship with her boyfriend Stephan Jenkins of the group Third Eye Blind. Me and V have gotten extremely close in a short time tho. so I could easily see why people may think that. but its not the case. she is my bfff. hahahahaha. as far as Murder Inc goes. 07 is looking like its gonna be a HUGE year for us. The young lion Lloyd "Ladi" is really getting things going. his YOU record with Lil Wayne is starting to explode at radio. feels great. as far as my brother Ja Rule goes. Yall all should know i would give my life for him. so as far as his project goes. you should know we coming. and yes. The Game and Murder Inc is like that now. me and rule speak to Game all the time. and you will be hearing some crazy songs with Rule and Game. I also have alot of new artist coming. 7, who is arguably the most talented person I have ever been around, is making a jump into being an artist. he is with Murder Inc. and his album is incredible. Imagine Prince if he fuuccckkked with Hip Hop. thats the best way to explain 7. I seen a post that chink santana is not with the INC anymore. yall make me laugh when yall run with the bullssshhit. Chink Santana and Murder Inc. is forever. feel me. what I have with my family is deep. and its rare in this fuucckkedd up biz. He has a label called Black Flag. that I am fully behind. and yes he co exec. jim jones album. my nigguz talents run deep. so hopefully it clears up a few things. I will end with this. after i got acquitted and didn't have to do that 20 years. it changed my life. i became more spiritual and believing in GOD. but yet i'm still Thugging it til the casket drops. my nigguz call me the Spiritual Thug now. hahahaha. but I just feel an obligation to make everyone whoever believed in me. to make them proud. I am way more of a people person now. cause 12 juror members that I didn't know. seen the good in me when the government was saying I was the head of a criminal empire with my brother for life SUPREME! and they acquitted me. so I owe them and every person out there a service to do them proud. I guess thats why i am on this sites now. I guess I am really FOR THE PEOPLE NOW! Ride wit ME! its real. Irv Gotti

p.s. i am very busy so do not get mad at me if i'm not on here as much as you guys may like. I'm trying to make history and change the way people think and feel. but i will be on here.

The funniest thing about this message is that he doesn't mention a damn thing about Ashanti. Rumor has it she left the Inc. a while ago, even though she's still listed as a signee on their official website. Maybe Irv is still pissy that she chose to be with Nelly regardless of how the dudes in The Inc. felt about it. Still, I hear Irv has signed Vanessa to somewhat take Ashanti's place.

On another note, I'm still laughing Hov and Def Jam actually dropped this Lady Soverign chick's Public Warning album yesterday.

Here's what is rumored to be Jay-Z's new Kingdom Come album cover:

Check out the new leaked music:

    Ghostface-"Ghost Is Back"
    Nas-"The 'N' "
Jay-Z-"The Corporate Takeover" off the Green Lantern Mixtape Presidential Invasion

Ludacris, Dallas Austin Judge Rising Musicians In New Talent

Ludacris, mega-producers/songwriters Dallas Austin (Brandy, Michael Jackson), Sean Garrett (Usher, Beyonce) and Block (Young Jeezy, Jazze Pha) have signed on as celebrity judges for the “How Down Is Your Sound?” talent contest sponsored by Atlanta media personality Ryan Cameron and Kaneva.com.

The online contest, open for submissions until October 9 and open to everyone in the U.S., asked the celebrity judges to assist in searching for singers and musicians with uploadable songs and music videos that display their skills.

Online voters at Kaneva.com will vote for their favorite entries through October 25, and the top 10 contestants will be invited to perform “live” in front of the four celebrity judges who will determine the winner of a grand prize valued at over $60,000.

"'How Down Is Your Sound' represents the talent search of the future," said Ryan Cameron, official host of "How Down Is Your Sound." "Where else in the world can someone off the street with literally no entry barriers, get the chance to share their sound and performance -- whether it is rap, Hip-Hop, or rock -- with millions of people worldwide, as well as with hit making producers who can help rocket them into celebrity status."

The grand prize package will include a $7,500 studio recording session in Dallas Austin’s DARP studio, a one-day internship with Sean Garrett, a demo deal that includes a 5-song package with Block’s producers, and a professional photo shoot.

The winner’s music will be showcased on Kaneva.com at the contest’s conclusion.

In related news, Ludacris is preparing to release his new album Release Therapy on Sept. 26, and will sign autographs at 6 pm at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square in New York City.

The album’s first single “Money Maker” made a debut on Billboard Hot 100 charts at #2.

Jay-Z's African Tour Gives Props to Local Act
    Friday. 10.6.06 10:12 pm

Friday - October 6, 2006 by Alexis Chase
NBA LIVE 07 - IN STORES NOW
    Jay-Z - Press Conference

Rapper and Def Jam label president Jay-Z is touring several countries in Africa this week making stops in Tanzania, Angola, Ghana, South Africa and Nigeria.

When Jay-Z performs in the Nigerian capital city Lagos this Saturday, he will share the bill with nine Nigerian artists, including female rapper Word MC, who is currently one of the hottest artists on the charts of Nigeria's flourishing hip-hop scene.

"To be mentioned alongside him at all - I feel privileged," Word MC told the BBC. "I just want to go out and sell Word MC and sell Africa with the best of my ability. I want it to be a crazy, Afrocentric multimedia experience. I want people to come and go, 'Wow' - we went to Nigeria and this is what we saw."

While 50 Cent was accused of failing to pay African artists their proper respects when he toured Africa, Jay-Z is being applauded for his inclusion of local artists and the artists seem to be just as excited about the visit as audience members.

"It's going to be my first time seeing him," renowned Nigerian rapper Rugged Man told BBC World Service, "I'm hoping he will give Nigerians their money's worth... this is a different crowd to what he's used to."

Getting their money's worth comes at a high price. VIP tickets for the show have been priced at $800 and regular tickets cost $200, so there have been plenty of complaints about the expense of attending the show being too much for many Nigerians to even consider.

"A lot of people have chosen to call it selective audience participation," Journalist Henry Ekachegu told the BBC. "How many people can afford this? People are struggling to get through daily living and the prices are like this?"

Still, Ekachegu acknowledged that Saturday's show in Lagos has generated "a huge media buzz" in the country, leaving many Nigerians feeling that the country has been deemed worthy of recognition as a cultural center for show business.

The African leg of Jay-Z's tour is part of an international stretch of shows that has already visited European countries including France, Holland, England and Germany and will also reach Asia and Australia later this month.
