Poverty China produces obese kids
Monday. 11.6.06 10:04 am

China is overpopulated and many areas are poverty stricken and yet 60 million chinese are considered to be obese. According to the State Food Nutrition and Consultant Committee in China, "An increasing number of Chinese are eating more fat and junk food but less grains and vegetables, leading to a high number of cases of high blood pressure and diabetes." To rectify this problem, China will need to narrow their regional income gap to help improve the diet of people in poverty-stricken areas.

lol--he certainly is fat compared to others in China, yet compare his "obesity" to someone who is considered obese in america, and you'll probs think that kid is skinny in comparison heh heh ^^;;

yeah... more and more people are able to afford junk food now... shame they stop eating their veggies =/

Hey!
As an American I resent that last remark. We're not all THAT obese! Sheesh!

But also, though I know this is a serious entry, the kid looks really funny. He looks like he's trying to do some sort of dance or something.

I'm gonna have to agree with the first comment...he's not as obese as some American kids I've seen :(

I think everywhere needs to address the weight problems of our youth (however, we do not need to reinforce the other side of the spectrum either with flaunting anorexic models and claiming that is how people should look)...where are the healthy, not too fat, not too skinny people in the world!

I'm...going to have to agree with lazypuppy and Kuri-chan. There's so much media surrounding the fast food chains and not enough promoting the good foods. And you know what the primary example would be...*waits for an answer* yup, MICKEY D'S. As much as I love the fries and so on, it's too much temptation. Especially with the parents to tired to cook. =/

About ryan's comment...I'm gonna go after him for that.

Very true
I've now lived in China for 2 years now and I'll tell you the north are fatter than the south whom are much healthier. Seems like wherever you go material wealth parallels obesity... cool blog
