As we all probably know by now, Tom Cruise, the master of scientology himself, has been fired from Paramount Studios.

Now, he's reportedly w/ Yahoo!? From a sketchy article I just read...
"Tom's future films will reportedly be backed, funded, endorsed, or whatever you want to call it by Yahoo!."

What do you think of that?

Yahoo! does have an office somewhere in Burbank, and Burbank essentially runs "Hollywood."

====
fun fact: Tom Cruise went to my elementary school for a grade (I think 3rd).

What do you mean ignorant to whom? If you mean who thinks he's ignorant then obviously I do and thats the only person I implied thought that though I do know of many other people who feel the same.

And I bash his religious persasuion because I don't consider it a real religion. I think scientology is just a pathetic attempt at a religious trend only it doesn't have the hundreds of years of backing that at least most religous trends have. I consider scientology to be as ridiculous and humorous as pastafarians though they at least acknowledge that it's just a joke. I think tom cruise has alot of complexes and I'm honestly surprised that he joined scientology and didn't just create a religion naming himself god of the universe.

Sorry. I meant to ask what, or who, he is ignorant about.

While your contention that scientology is ' a pathetic attempt at a religions trend' may have it's merits, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, and whoever else wishes to subscribe to said religion should be afforded the right to do just that--- believe what they believe. Freedom of religion, despite the hypocracy of our genocidal forefathers, is one of the foundations of the U.S. constitution and is not a right that has been abridged. We've seen time and time again throughout the course of our nation's semi-rich history that other rights can be taken away and given back--- from the freedom of speech at times of war to the right to be treated equally and fairly, also at times of war ( japanese internment camps.) However, freedom of religion... the right to believe in what you believe in, to the best of my knowledge, has never been abridged in this country because the one aspect of a man, or woman, you can not completly control is his or her soul and their own individual psyche; we can dictate what they eat, what they see, what they read, who they fuck, when they sleep, whatever... but we can not force American citizens to forsake their religious persuasion based on our own preconcieved notions about what a proper religion is. And since when does time dictate whether or not a religion is a religion or not? Who sets the standard? Must a religion be around for 60 years to be considered a religion? 100? 1000?

And back to Tom Cruise.. I do not have a Ph.D in psychology so I won't offer an analysis pertaining to whether or not the man has any ' complexes. ' I will say that he does not appear to be anymore narcissitic--- have any more of a struggle with hubris--- than any other multimillionaire actor who has multiple box office hits accredited to his name. I've never spoken to the man one-on-one so I won't venture to say that he is an egotistical, self absorbed, wannabe diety or anything.

Scientology may be a cult... but there are many who would argue that catholicism is a cult because it deviates from Christ's assertion that "no one comes to the father but through me," what with the hierachy there is in the catholic church ( congregation answers to priest who answers to whoever is infront of him, all the way to the pope. ) Then again, there are many who would argue that Islam and the Protestant relgiion as a whole are cults by those who rebuke the contention that Christ is the messiah who the prophets spoke of in the Torah, or because they don't recognize Mohammed as a prophet at all.

I am a Christian; however, while I do not subscribe to the teachings of other religions, I do not believe it is my place to dictate what is and what is not a religion, and what should and should not be respected as such. All I can do is live my life with the goal of pleasing my God, rather than trying to bash another person's beliefs.

Wow that was a long response.

Let me start off by saying that I'm not someone who is adamant about one religion and that's why I feel how I do about scientology. Honestly I wouldn't even know what religion to classify myself under. I think most religions (well at least the more known ones that I have been able to look into) have some truth to them. I think that I do stray closest to cristianity because alot of religions are very similair to it in different ways and where certain things occur in more than one religion it makes me more apt to believe it. I personally believe that there is some form of "god" and I pull together the rest of what I believe from other religions because there are parts that just make sense to me. Now I DO NOT want to start some super crazy religous debate here by any means. I just want that to be clear. Now of all religions that I can find, at the very least, one thing that seems right or at the very least plausible the only one that has absolutely no logic, reason or even spirituality its scientology. Now with that said back to tom cruise.

My problem with Tom Cruise is the same problem I have with alot of celebrities. He thinks that being a famous actor gives him some type of religous and politcal conscience that people who are not celebrities are incabale of having. I have no respect for anyone who pushes their religion or political views on other people but for someone who is actually in a position to be heard and who has been a role model for alot of people to abuse that position takes my dis-respect for him to an all new low.

Now to defend myself. I am by no means taking away their right to believe what they want to believe. You mentioned how freedom of religion has been the only constitutional right to not be taken away. Not to sound offensive but are you serious? It may have not been directly done but it has been indirectly done numerous times and still continues to do so to this very day. How about not allowing gay people to get married? That's forcing people with different beliefs to follow the beliefs of a religion. I can think of many more examples but I don't want to turn this into some crazy political debate and I can already feel it teetering on that edge. Scientology on its supporters sites even continually refers to the technology of it and I think technology has nothing to do with religion personally. The man who started it was a science fiction author and it was based off a self help series he came out with. It didn't start out as a religion, it became one after it gained popularity as a self help program. I think that scientology is a blatant scam. It was his money train and he rode it all the way to the bank and I dont even see how that could be any more obvious.

Back to tom cruise again...
I think he has mentally deteriorated in front of millions of people. Obviously since he was fired (which is another example of freedom of "religon" not being upheld) I am not the only person who thinks this. I think this is too obvious to even be worthy of an arguement. I will say however that I am not singling out tom cruise. I think most celebrity scientologists are hypocrists and teetering on the brink of insanity. I feel as if I've more than adequaetly explained why I feel that about tom cruise. John Travolta is another example because he has always tried to come off as a slight enviromentalist but he has two planes just to get to the scientology center. Isaac Hayes is my personal favorite though. He made fun of pretty much every religion in existence but then freaked out and quit when his was made fun of.

I would also like to say that I'm not saying its wrong bc it isn't christ because you kind of made it seem that you felt that way. I'm not really even saying that its wrong so much as I am saying it's stupid. I also don't feel like even if I wanted to (which I don't) I am in no position to dictate anything about religion or which ones should or shouldnt be respected. The only person I am speaking for is myself and I never said anything elsewise.

When you stopped paying attention to this thread. We knew you were going to read it eventually so we stopped all the philosophical debate to spare you the pain of trying to understand such complex thoughts, Princess.
