What's wrong with Nutang? Did it die?

No one knows, but I think Nutang did die on us.

no one can blog; I don't think anyone can access their mail or any previous blogs to edit them. This is totally weird

Well, everything seems to be working now.

That was totally weird. Some things worked like the forum and the shoutbox, but if the site comepletely went bonkers then nothing should have.

My gallery is still messed up.

The site is made up of many scripts and these scripts are on many "pages". Some files were corrupted I guess would be a decent way to put it. The template was working on all of the pages such as the message inbox and the page to create a new entry...the layout was there but no links or forms that the page should have. That area was blank. The shoutbox and forum scripts were fine which is why they remained working.

As I attempted to explain in the shoutbox about the av's is that the image files were either corrupted or missing. The NuTang scripts look for an image that's associated with your account. Since these files weren't usable for one reason or another, all users reverted back to MJ. As another person explained...Dave loaded the files from 2004 so those who were here and had their own AV back then had that AV again.

It was a malicious attack that was definitely intentional. This has happened, most likely, for the same reason that myspace had to hire 'security' professionals (not comparing the two sites of course!). But once a site gains popularity, it makes it a bigger/better target. It makes me more tempting to take down. It can be a downfall to sites that work really hard at building their service and community.

I've suggested some steps to hopefully prevent such attacks but I hadn't heard back from Dave yet if he'll employ them or if they'd truly help. I definitely don't want to see it happen again as I know how I felt when I couldn't do anything for two days...I could only imagine what others felt about it.

It could just be a random attack. Animanga got hacked a while back by someone, they decided to delete my Calendar for that month and write their name...creative.

I'm feeling very...annoyed. Feel like making an example of them and and thrusting their vulture-licked bones as a warning to all in cyberspace. A warning that hackers will not be welcomed with cake and champagne.

I hope those steps of your work, etheracide. Who knows, maybe we'll get to show the corpses after all? ;) Heeheehehehe.
