Ultimate download of the day
Saturday. 12.2.06 2:25 am
Windows only: Convert nearly any video format to nearly any other video format with the aptly named Any Video Converter.

The program supports just about every video format known to man, including AVI, DivX, FLV, RM, and VOB. It also comes with output profiles for devices like the iPod and PSP, though you can easily create a custom profile with the audio and video specs of your choosing.

AVC couldn't be much easier to use, and it supports batch conversions--always a nice perk. You'll definitely want to add this utility to your video arsenal (though don't overlook Videora Converter, arguably a better choice for converting videos for mobile devices). Any Video Converter is free for Windows. — Rick Broida

Paris Hilton pukes on stage
Wednesday. 11.22.06 5:23 pm
Paris Hilton was listening to Jay-Z sing at a night club in Las Vegas while she was swigging Grey Goose - straight. After his spot was over, she got up on stage and ordered the owner of the house to put her record in so that she could lip sink to it. As the music began to play, Paris puked on stage and then left.

Ha ha ha!!

Homemade Christmas Gift #4
Sunday. 12.10.06 3:03 am

Rocky Road Caramel Apples

INGREDIENTS

* 6 Granny Smith apples
* 6 wooden sticks
* 1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
* 2 tablespoons water
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows
* 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans, toasted
* 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS

1. Insert wooden sticks 3/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple. Place apples on a cookie sheet covered with lightly greased aluminum foil.
2. Combine caramels and water in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until caramel melts and is smooth. Stir in the vanilla. Dip each apple into the caramel and gently run apples around insides of saucepan to scrape off some of the caramel. Scrape excess caramel from the apple bottoms using the side of the saucepan.
3. Combine the miniature marshmallows and pecans on a dinner plate. Roll the apples in the mixture to coat. Place on the aluminum foil and chill.
4. Put the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Cook in the microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth. Drizzle over the apples and return them to the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Winter surfing
Saturday. 11.4.06 10:52 am
If you are interested in winter surfing but dont have a good wetsuit, this article was written just for you...

So for those of you who have to settle for hitting the beaches of California and Hawaii during the terribly cold winter months they have there, Rip-Curl has introduced a new wetsuit designed to keep you warm. The H-bomb (hopefully no indication of future nuclear fallout) attaches two Li-Ion batteries to your back to generate heat throughout.

The wetsuit has two different heat settings, low (120-130 degrees Fahrenheit) and high (140-150 degrees Fahrenheit). Heat is dissipated through thin layers of internal fabric to spread heat evenly over your skin, no hot spots. So while we're not sure this will start the water sports rush in Alaska, it may extend the surf season a little anyways.

What your college education is worth
Thursday. 3.15.07 12:41 pm
You know I just got this email from my boss. It states:

"An extra $27,000 a year for a bachelor's degree, compared to people who did not finish high school. A doctorate is worth another $30,000 on top of that."

I really dont see that happening. At least NOT where I work!!! I just think it is ironic how my boss would send us something like that when I HAVE my bachelors degree and I am getting paid LESS than someone in her department that only has an AA. I dont even know if she has even that!

I have to believe the statistics however because it goes on to say...

According to the data, the median salary for workers with a four-year college degree in 2005 was $40,166 -- compared to just over $13,000 a year for people who did not complete high school.

Those with a high school degree only had a median income of $21,079; for a two-year associate's degree it was $30,937; for a master's degree it was $51,509; for a doctorate it was $70,165. Those with law, medical and other professional degrees topped the list at $76,497.

They believe that the earnings gap is steadily rising. I guess that is good news for me.

Christmas season
Sunday. 12.3.06 1:19 am

Tonight we decorated the tree. I usually dont get a tree until the week of Christmas because I usually cant afford one. So last year I purchased a fake tree so that we can put it up every year on Dec. 1st. We assembled it yesterday and decorated it today. It was so nice to come home to the apartment with only the christmas tree lights on.

I do not like christmas. It is such a depressing time of year. But I have to admit, it is nice to see the tree.

Accountability
Friday. 11.3.06 2:12 pm
What I learned in College

I learned that people dont like to be held accountable and if you TRY to make them accountable they get mad at you and fight back. What is wrong with people today? How are leaders suppose to get ahead and get an organization running and up to speed if everyone does not accept change or want to be accountable for their own work?

We just finished our last class and my "team" evaluation scores were low. I attended all the meetings, I was there ON TIME for each one, I participated and I also used my resources to pull the final project together. Sure Josh did the editting but he is MY resource and I was the one that had to push him to get the project done. The only thing I see where I would have slipped or made a mistake was when I sent an email to everyone venting my frustration with not meeting our deadlines. I also said that there was an un-even distribution of weight. If that is the reason why people gave me low grades to bring my average down that really disappoints me. I have learned that no matter where you go, church, work, PTA, grad school.... people dont like to be held accountable and worse than that, they "stone" the person that forces them to be accountable.
