Just Another Opinion of Rockin' 80's
Rating: 4/5
Alright, first of all, I just picked this collection up at my local retailer out of the used section for just $8 bucks! What a deal. Three CD's worth of 80's music. 40 songs total.

I just felt like I had to counter the one other review of this product, Donna saying she felt it was "a bit of a dissappointment". And that there was alot of "filler" in here. Well, there is some filler, and there will always be songs on these collections that you do not recognise right off the bat, but you may grow to like them.

For me, the draw was all the Harder Rock/Heavy Metel songs on the collection. I never bought these albums by these 80's "Hair Metal" bands, but liked the songs played on the radio. I even remember seeing a few of these acts open up a show for the better known Rock bands of that era. Frankly, many of these groups I would consider "One-hit Wonders". I know, I know the fans of Quiet Riot are gonna disagree, but I only know two of the bands songs, Cum on Feel the Noize, and Bang Your Head. Well, guess what...there both here! In fact there is a lot of good harder rock songs on here: Down Boys by Warrent, You've Got Another Thing Coming - Judas Priest, Teas'n Pleas'n by Dangerous Toys, etc.

Plus, there is a bunch of just cool 80's Pop music on here like Tommy Tutones 867-5309/Jenny, Working for the Weekend by Loverboy, and who hasn't heard The Romantics "What I Like About You".

Over-all, it's not bad for some corporate hack to have put together. These things are never perfect. It provides a quick and convenient place to find alot of good 80's music to expand your musical horizons.

Pick up a used copy, You'll be glad you did.

A bit of a disappointment

One would think that a three-CD set containing 40 songs is bound to be really good, but Sony Music's "Rockin' 80s" compilation really falls short.

While not a professional music reviewer, I *was* paying attention to the radio and MTV in the 80s and, sorry to say, this set is loaded with "filler" songs that I've never heard of.

That bothers me when music corporations deem it ncecessary to include practically unknown songs of the time because there were defintely enough of hits from that period to more than fill three CDs!

That gripe aside, I was pleased to find familiar songs here including "The Final Countdown," "Wait For You," "Burnin' For You," "And We Danced," "Cult of Personality," "Rock and Roll Is King," and a few other hits that pretty much get overlooked on many 80s collections.

In all, though, this isn't worth the money because of the sheer amount of really unknown songs Sony chose to include here. - Donna Di Giacomo
