Typical
Thursday. 9.24.09 3:26 am
Today, I called my girlfriend typical.

She is completely different in every way. She's amazing. She likes me, which already screams unique, because I'm really hard to like, I imagine.

But today, I told her she was typical. I am straight edge. She drinks and smokes weed, on occasion. And yes, veritably on occasion.

Most may seem me as the one with a label, fitting a stereotype. However, I see any teenager, especially American, who drinks, smokes, and/or does drugs extremely - typical. Those who do so are only fitting the biggest stereotype of them all. A teenager who drinks? They're a dime a baker's dozen. It's almost become an archetype. Find a female teenager who doesn't drink, smoke, or do drugs, and isn't bound to any religion (because it's equivalent to the three), and you've found a gem rarer than diamonds. An anomaly.

Thus, I called her typical. I meant no offense. I told her they make movies about people like her, and shitty ones. Of course, she got really offended. I am an asshole. It's true. I'm not even right. She is NOT typical. She does what the typical teenager does, and for typical teenager reasons (feeling good and cutting loose....gah, I just fail to see how one needs to drink or smoke to do that! Are there absolutely no alternatives?!), but she is not typical.

I realize that the reason I told her that is because I have been subtly, brutally, and blatantly scolded, picked on, and ostracized for abstaining from those three main vices, and I feel like I need to put down anyone who doesn't abstain. But there is nothing wrong with people who don't. There is something wrong with people who don't, who don't accept and who mock straight people like me. She doesn't deserve to be called typical. I know, it is not the worst insult in the world, but it IS like calling a "homo-phobe" a homosexual.

So, I apologize to her. I am wrong. And I am the worst boyfriend in the world.

It's a shame she'll never read this. As a matter of fact, I'm probably the only who'll read this, or anything I write, especially here on NuTang.

So, babe, I'm sorry. I love you. And for those who read this.....thank you for reading.

Hah. She really should read this. But you have to do it in a way where she "stumbles" upon it herself...like "oh woops I left the computer on!" lol except delete this comment first.

I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, and I'm not religious, but I wouldn't consider myself a "gem rarer than diamonds." :P

And I kinda understand the frustration when you're with someone who's made different lifestyle choices than you... my boyfriend (I still feel weird saying that...) is a Christian and I kept finding myself wanting to argue with him about that.... in the end though, I realize that it's not my place to choose what he does or believes in, so I just kept my thoughts to myself for the most part.

it happens.
everyone lashes out when they are frustrated over something. i would agree that those actions are typical, though, i wouldn't call you an asshole for saying that.

As long as you apologize to her sincerely, like on here, everything will be ok?

+ It's still good that you can understand the reasons behind what you did/said. I don't think many teenagers even think about cause and effect like you.
