Thanksgiving? No, not quite yet.
Friday, November 23, 2007 @ 12:19 am
For some reason, my extended family decided to celebrate Thanksgiving on the Friday this year. One thing that hasn't changed: the party's at my house.

I've never had a sit-down meal for Thanksgiving, and I don't think I'd ever like that. With us, the family's too big and our houses are too small to pull off the whole sit-down dinner thing. I prefer it this way anyway: being surrounded by my close-knit family, doing everything pot-luck style. In that respect, I'm really lucky that I have family I can actually stand. I mean, there are things that my family members do or say that get on my nerves, and we certainly aren't immune to the drama (what family can claim to be that way?), but for the most part, at family gatherings, we don't want to kill each other.

I think that's what I'm most grateful for this year. Even though my grandmother died a few months back, I'm thankful for how that tragedy managed to bring the family closer together--like I remember we were when I was younger. Hopefully we won't need another grim wake-up call like that one to realize that family comes first.

Happy Thanksgiving!! You sound alright. I think Thanksgiving is like the night before Chinese New Year where family members gather and have dinner together. To compare with that.. I'm going to be thankful that next year I'll have my laptop to be pretending to be doing my assignments throughout the annual harrassment by relatives. Still it is a little too early to tell.

ok.. I'm crapping.. so.. have fun with the turkey, if you are having turkey.

happy gobble day!
I was going to say belated, but then you're having yours today so it's perfect. ;)

I like to think that no matter what happens ro happened, love is all around. It doesn't matter if there was some sort of argument, grudge, or bitchiness. We're family and friends come what may.

I had to miss my family gathering in Maryland because I had to work a 5 hour shift. We generally have no drama although there may be a member or two that I won't talk with as much just because they have a natural condescending way of holding a conversation. They'll ask what I'm doing for a job now and whatever it is, they will suggest another job that I should try to get. I believe that they mean well for the most part but I can pre-map out every conversation that we'll have because they all go the same way. Bores me. But I miss my family. The only other get-together is for Christmas and I most likely will be working then as well =0( But I hope you enjoy your day today. Eat lots of the foods that I didn't get to eat!

Well, it's good that you can stand your family. For me, I'm the oldest 'kid', so I'm not exempt from helping out, and when I'm free I have nothing to do because all my cousins are much younger than me. :/

I'd join the CIA if we got to work together and if Michael Vartan was our "handler".... but it looks like they're not really looking for people with Geology degrees. I can't imagine why. Doesn't everyone know that Geology is an integral part of international terrorism? Duh, they live in caves!

As far as going to Cabo and the like, I'm betting heavily on parental support as the most likely cause. Or you could just get your company to say, send you to Paris for a week like yours truly. But it's likely that you won't actually get to see any of Paris besides the inside of a lab. Last month my credit card bill was ridiculously high because I haven't been reimbursed yet, and I realized that the only things I spent money on were food, rent, and dental insurance, and it still came to a ridiculous sum. I also spent $13 on the new Juanes CD, my only luxury of the month. La vida es un ratico!
