A few words
"When we describe the Moon as dead, we are describing the deadness in ourselves. When we find space so hideously void, we are describing our own unbearable emptiness." ~ D.H. Lawrence "Is the meaning of life defined by its duration? Or does life have a purpose so large that it doesn't have to be prolonged at any cost to preserve its meaning?" "Living is not good, but living well. The wise man, therefore, lives as well as he should, not as long as he can... He will always think of life in terms of quality not quantity... Dying early or late is of no relevance, dying well or ill is... even if it is true that while there is life there is hope, life is not to be bought at any cost." ~ Seneca "People will tell you nothing matters, the whole world's about to end soon anyway. Those people are looking at life the wrong way. I mean, things don't need to last forever to be perfect." ~ Daydream Nation "All Bette's stories have happy endings. That's because she knows where to stop. She's realized the real problem with stories-- if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death." ~ The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes "The road now stretched across open country, and it occurred to me - not by way of protest, not as a symbol, or anything like that, but merely as a novel experience - that since I had disregarded all laws of humanity, I might as well disregard the rules of traffic. So I crossed to the left side of the highway and checked the feeling, and the feeling was good. It was a pleasant diaphragmal melting, with elements of diffused tactility, all this enhanced by the thought that nothing could be nearer to the elimination of basic physical laws than deliberately driving on the wrong site of the road." ~ Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita "It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend." ~ William Blake Think about it Musicalities! POSTERITY! Our game lasted three hours, exactly. We hit the 2:50 mark, and were well past done, but there were these two girls who were being terribly catty, so we wanted to take our time just to piss them off more. A nice couple came up to us as we were packing and asked if we were done or leaving soon. I hope they enjoyed that table. Sheeesh I am unphotogenic. » ikimashokie on 2013-08-03 12:22:22 One other comment: I like how my friend is the only one in the picture not wearing a woot! shirt. » ikimashokie on 2013-08-03 12:34:45 YAY IKI!!!!!!!! I'm jealous that each of you got to meet the other. I wanted to comment on your post about the meaninglessness of life, but it is too far down there now so I'll comment here. I actually feel the same way. I don't know if it comes from my particular brand of religious thought or my profession as a geologist, but I'm kinda like, "Hey man, sorry you didn't get that promotion, but no worries, in 1.6 billion years the Earth will be uninhabitable." "Hey man, sorry they didn't have the sandwich you wanted-- in five hundred years nobody will even remember that you or this store existed at all." Once I figured out that life is random and therefore inherently unfair, it freed me from being angry about what happens, or to get caught up in some kind of idea that I "deserve" certain things to happen. I read this book called "The Science of Religion" and what caused me to like the book was that in the first chapter the guy was like, "People ask: 'If God exists, why did my aunt/cousin/friend die?' and he says, 'Read the Bible--- it's full of people... many of whom were 'beloved' by God. What do they all have in common? THEY'RE ALL DEAD. Even the ones who were brought back to life are dead. So why do you think your aunt/cousin/friend would be an exception? " I think a lot of life's misery comes from comparing how life is to how you think life should be, or how you think that you deserve for your life to be. If you stop having expectations about life, you stop being angry when they don't work out, and being grateful when they do happen to work out. So I find it profoundly satisfying to accept that life is meaningless, or, if it does have meaning, that it is fundamentally inaccessible to us. » Zanzibar on 2013-08-03 04:47:32 Eh, it's not that skinny. It was dead, though. » middaymoon on 2013-08-03 10:18:35 RE It's odd to me that we as people have phases on what we believe haha. But I guess that's the beauty of the human brain, always changing, never the same. » jabberwock on 2013-08-03 03:22:43 Re yay phases that stick! » jabberwock on 2013-08-05 02:06:59
