Then when the tables are turned and you're the one needing help, when someone wants to help, but can't, you try hard to make them not feel bad. Kinda weird how things like that work. If he didn't have your company and your support, his situation would FEEL entirely different, and entirely more hopeless...so don't think you have to go through loops and bounds to make an impact. Sometimes the BEST thing is just to be listening ear. I would recommend going for a run, and trying to run up a hill. I did this last night. It hurt so bad, but I couldn't stop till I made it to this little lightpost halfway up the hill. You always have to set a destination that's a little bit further then what you think you can actually do. And when you go, you can't stop, or else the pain won't be there. It works for me, but it might not work for you. I'm just worried (and understandably so) that you bring up pain. Hurting for things can be good, but only if you channel it in the right way. Use pain as a wall to overcome to achieve something better, not something to look for to validate what's happening now. ...and I'm going to quote my comment I gave you last time: "Do you need anything tangible? Sometimes it's the desire to help people that goes a lot further, and that's not something that a lot of people have. You should do something about it. That pasta shell IS freaking amazing and beautiful. 2. Those lizards are very very sad. It makes me very sad to imagine how much struggling they must have gone through before finally dying. 3. I think Muffy is right about channeling the feeling into physical exertion. I don't even like long distance running, but I go for a run when I'm really really feeling awful (mentally/emotionally). It helps to wear my body out physically, and it makes my sleep easier and more productive. Back in grad school sometimes I felt so stressed out and crappy that I wished I would get hit by a truck. I felt like getting hit by a truck would be the physical expression of what I was going through mentally, so it would restore the balance, kind of. But then I always realized that what would inevitably happen would be that I would be stressed, depressed AND in a full-body cast, which would just prolong my mental and scholastic anguish. Anyway, right when I feel so bad that I want to curl up and take a nap to make time magically pass, I try to do the last thing I feel like doing and go jump-rope 200 times or run up and down a hill.
