Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous.
Actually, who are you not to be?

lindy was telling me abt this speaker at a talk she went to. the topic was networking.

apparently, this person started to network when he touched down to singapore from canada or sth. prob his neighbour on the flight i think, is his first contact. now this person happens to be a lecturer at NUS. and this neighbour gave the canadian(TC) 6 nos. to call. for jobs.

the first no. is the lecturer's no. after speaking more to the lecturer, TC was invited to meet the director of NUS and was den offered a stint at NUS for just 3 weeks or so as a guest lecturer.

so obviously, he needed to get his work permit done. now, work permits usually take a couple of weeks to process and ding dong back and forth blah blah. and so obviously, he used his significant charms and and managed to get his permit in 3 days.

afterwhich, he called the 2nd no. he needs to eat after 3 weeks rite? so he was den offered a lecturing spot in Sing poly. while he was there, he made alot of effort to ensure that he made full use of contacts/oppurtunity. went around foodcourts offering pple/other lecturers his name card/sitting down for lunch with strangers/ starting conversations etc.

so thru his spiderweb of connections, he manage to meet a guy with a great business idea. so they went into a partnership.

all this while he keep networking like crazy. going to seminars and stuff.
he was invited to give talks abt networking to pple whu wanted to learn networking. i mean high end talks sia. not those cheapskate kind where the pple come in flip flops.

so once, after his talk he found the director of Temasek Holdings (Govt investment arm) in the audience and struck up a conversation. and voila~ the govt will now aid his fledging co to take on the united states market.

this yr he is 61. but he looks 40. he still goes ard giving talks re:networking.

concl: i need to learn how to network. but its just so tiring. and i guess my passivity is the reason i'm not gonna be earning millions.
