Keep your Computer Healthy and Fast Part 2
Thursday. 2.19.09 2:24 pm
Remove cumbersome antivirus programs. Like Norton and MacAfee. Norton is EVIL! The truth is that Norton Anti-Virus has been become the enemy. A program intended to stop viruses from hurting your computer. When at the same time it monitors all your files, even system files effectively slowing your computer down significantly. Now one thing many people do not understand is that a lot of the worst viruss cannot be detected by any antivirus software. The reason is because your computer is dumb. Its even dumber than you. Antivirus software will not keep you from installing a program, even a malicious virus type program that can damage your pc. Antivirus software can only block programs that forcefully try and execute without any previous permission from you or any of your software.
My recommendation is this. Completely and utterly remove Norton and MacAfee from your system. They completely use way too many computer resources. Resources that you need to run fast and effectively. So two pieces of Antivirus I recommend are AVG and CA eTrust.
AVG is great for a free program. It uses fewer resources than Norton and MacAfee. It updates daily and can be scheduled to run full or quick system scans. This is very convenient! Simply schedule it to scan at a time you are not using your computer.
CA eTrust is better, but it is not free. It has a real time file monitor like Norton but there is no noticeable degradation in computer performance like observed with Norton. CA eTrust is better than AVG, as AVG updates daily. CA eTrust can update every 15 min.

Now of course, malware protection. Malware is software that is malicious. It slows your pc down, it can steal sensitive information like credit card numbers and such, it can cause a relentless pop up attack, and last they do it all without you know knowing it!

So the truth is there are millions of these malware programs. I mean millions.

Guess what? You got malware, and its doing bad things on your computer as you are reading this. You can find and stop these programs. There is a real simple solution. Download three programs.

Spybot Search & Destroy from Safer Networking INC
Malware Bytes from Malwarebytes.org
Ad-Aware from Lavasoft

Hey just google them. You will find them. Run a scan with each program. After you run each program you will be at least 99% free of malware.

If you had lots of malware and removed it you should be able to notice drastic increase in performance.

Thanks so much for the info!! I didnt know that IE and FF are supposed to share the same speed!! I actually don't know much about computers, I just know how to use them.

I think it's part of my Broadband provider's fault cause it's the only one in the country so everyone will still use it regardless how horribly sucky it is.

I have Spybot but it never detects anything..
