How well do you know me?
Could your Printer Spy on You?
Friday. 7.20.07 2:54 am
(From: http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/35239 and http://www.eff.org/Privacy/printers/)

I have just gone through the site and here's the jist of what I have read:

Most Colored Laser Printers print a group of faint yellow dots on a certain side of the paper pertaining to the ID of the printer (kinda like saying every colored laser printer has its own thumbmark). This is almost invisible to the naked eye due to its small size and color. Given the uniqueness of each dot, every document printed can be traced back to the owner of the printer. The initial intention of this was for FBI to be able to track down counterfeiters. Unfortunately, it was discovered that FBI was also abusing the technology by finding out who are sending ACLU and Green Peace the documents they have, honest whistle blowers are not as safe as they think.

But remember, this is for colored laser printers. If you want your documents to remain a lot more confidential, use a black and white laser printer, and hope that no one is keeping secrets on these printers hiding something from us.
