SEXY SPEC FROM PRETTY RICKY DEBUTS NEW SONG + GRINDIN' CHALLENGE Tuesday. 5.26.09 3:10 pm Mary J. Blige Provides A "Breakthrough" For the Peeps At Vibe! Jennifer Hudson Debuts on Essence Friday. 2.2.07 6:36 pm We all recall Mary J. Blige's public expression of disgust about her previous Vibe cover in December 2005. It was during the Vibe Awards that our girl from Yonkers kept it real while on stage receiving the magazine's coveted VLegend Award.
Since Mary is all renewed and enlightened, and Mimikins is no longer spinning webs over @ 215, Mary happily graces the cover of Vibe's "150th Collector's Edition Issue."
Thank God they got rid of that bubbly font! But they went overboard on the cover lines.
GOOD LOOK ALL AROUND!
Mary and her eight Grammy nominations will help move this issue on the newsstands.
Kudos to Vibe for getting it right. Those last few covers have been less than delicious... but this shit makes my mouth water.
Heard about it here, copped the image from here. Shout out to the Loop!
And speaking of magazine covers... don't sleep on Jennifer Hudson's Essence cover.
Thoughts?

Monday. 2.5.07 7:20 pm Brandy isn't the only R&B chic with major legal woes. As we mentioned before, Toni Braxton sued her former manager, Barry Hankerson, for $10 million due to breach of contract.
But is there more to the story....
On Wednesday we found out that Toni and Hankerson are now in a public battle. The jist of the story is this. Toni filed her lawsuit. The courts and her attorney told her to re-file in state court and make sure she had proof. Hankerson took her re-filing as her dropping the lawsuit and issued a public statement saying Toni dropped it.
Toni, then issues a statement saying oh hell no, I didn't drop the case I refiled. Then Hankerson issued yet another statement saying basically that Toni is full of shit. Read more here.
One key detail in Hankerson's claim is that Toni is pulling a fast one. Here is an excerpt from the Hankerson's/Blackground Records statement that was issued.
"Neither Blackground Records nor Barry Hankerson have been served with the new lawsuit; nevertheless, we are quite confident that this new lawsuit will ultimately be deemed devoid of merit. Both Blackground Records LLC and Barry Hankerson have fulfilled all of their obligations to Ms. Braxton and find it disappointing that she has chosen litigation instead of working with Blackground Records to make a hit album that could have revived her recording career," says the statement.
Hankerson claims that Braxton's original lawsuit comes just two days after he dropped her from Blackground when she collected an advance for an album that she later refused to deliver.
Aiight... let's get real here. Sure Hankerson maybe shady, but Toni's last cd had like two good songs on it. And I can easily see Toni pulling a diva move and promising an album so that she could get the advance and then say... fuck that shit.
As it stands now the case will go to trial in New York State Court and until then you can catch Toni at the Flamingo in Vegas.
Check this rare video from Toni for "Let It Flow." Apparently it was never released because the label thought it was too risque.

All to find out what we suspected all along.
IT WAS KERI'S FAULT!!!!!!
According to the New York Daily News, Barry Hankerson blamed all Toni's woes on her overbearing Mint Condition husband Keri Lewis.
"It was a terrible experience for us," Hankerson told us of working with the singer on his label Blackground Records. "We had to work through her husband to get things done, and it was really tough for us."
"She was with the best hitmakers in the world, but she infused another person in the mix," continued Hankerson. "Look at the back of the albums. All of a sudden you start seeing this new name. You couldn't get to Toni or offer her a song."
Braxton's rep replied: "[Hankerson's] continuing to blame Toni's husband for everything except Hurricane Katrina is both untrue and unfounded."
Now how many of you didn't guess that a lot of this had to do with her husband. Ever since she let him touch her music, she's been damaged goods. Note the decline in sales from when he first showed up... right around The Heat.
Toni and Keri seem happy and committed in their marriage and God bless that, however since everyone feels like Whitney Houston's My Love Is Your Love was so hip hop influenced because of Bobby Brown and now that they've separated she's consorting with music royalty again and not just Cherelle.... should Toni wait til she gets divorced to record again?
Is that what it will take to get another good album out of her? Yea yea she's never been horrible... but the quality of the music went down hill after Secrets. Say whatcha will. Comment! You know the name. And if you don't know the name then you know the hits. He and Amerie developed a sound with her first album, All I Have. It's been recreated in Beyonce's "Crazy In Love", Jennifer Lopez's "Get Right" and of course A's "1 Thing".
For Amerie's forthcoming cd. Because I Love It, there is no sign of Rich Harrison. Read about why here.

Like when all producers blow up, they work with all the big names. But when the dust settles and they become a staple, sometimes new ventures are required to take it up a notch or two.
ENTER RICHCRAFT RECORDS!
Rich is fuckin with Atlantic in a major way. He's got some male R&B acts coming on his new label. Keep in mind Rich typically works with women and has only really grinded for two dudes-- Diddy (Making It Hard" featuring Mary J. Blige from Press Play) and Usher ("Take Your Hand" from Confessions). There may be one two other songs for Usher and I think something with Mos Def, but overall Rich has been a ladies man.
Enter Young Steff and Jaiden.
Young Steff is the first male up to bat on RichcrafT.
His new song is "Put That On Everything."

Aiight so what y'all think of a male putting his stank on Rich's signature sound. What say you?

I got the chance to meet Jennifer at the AEC/ASCAP luncheon at the Beverly Hilton this past Sunday morning in Los Angeles. We'll have footage of that a little later in the week.
I was working the red carpet and Jennifer was the last to come through. She was on tap to honor original Dreamgirl, Sheryl Lee Ralph for her philanthropy and commitment to AIDS prevention and awareness.
It was a quick interview. She was being dragged down the carpet by her handlers. Her quirky yet bubbly personality kept it lively. (I'm being nice here.)
She did however stop to speak with me answering questions on her new album, Oscar hoopla and having just bought her first home in Chicago.
What I did like is that Jennifer made it clear to me that there would be no movies, plays, commercials or projects that would happen before she completed her album. "I want to concentrate on my album and give it my all. You should hear something by March," she said as they pulled out of my camera shot.
