So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Every physical object is liable to changes in color as well as in position. An object might, for example, be capable of going through all shades from red through violet to blue. A physical interaction between any two bodies is possible only if they are close to each other in space as well as in color. Bodies of different colors would penetrate each other without interference... If we lock a number of flies into a red glass globe, they may yet escape: they may change their color to blue and are then able to penetrate the red globe." --- Hans Reichenback, The Philosophy of Space and Time, 1927.

I'm not dissing the original author! But if this were a modern day theory I would be put off by it. Pseudo-science makes my blood boil. I actually love ideas like this, as long as they remain in the correct setting and context. A Wrinkle in Time is also full of stuff that I love but would be a really stupid modern theory, for example. » middaymoon on 2013-11-20 08:15:13 OH no no no, I don't think there's a problem with higher dimensions. Though I do agree that 3-D creatures wouldn't fare well in 4-D space. I just mean that A Wrinkle in Time added a lot of fantasy elements into the otherwise solid theory. It's great as a kid's book. It's been a while since I read it but I remember some pretty fantastic animals and...space travel without a ship? Maybe? » middaymoon on 2013-11-20 10:45:23 This isn't pseudo-science, it's a metaphor. » le_battement on 2013-11-21 02:15:42 This is a cool passage, though without more context I'm pretty much completely unable to understand what it's talking about. » randomjunk on 2013-11-23 01:43:45 it's too 'science' for me but it reminds me of the triangle prism to get the rainbow colours. » renaye on 2013-11-23 03:11:33 Hrm... yes... » jinyu on 2013-11-25 11:01:46
