I am still confused.

I read this Swedish mystery novel once where this lady got murdered and everyone thought that her husband did it because he was there during the murder, but as it turned out he was really drunk and had blacked out the whole thing, and someone else had murdered her but he couldn't remember who. The detective went searching into this woman's past, and even though she had often had relationships with people, they usually ended in tragedy... one guy committed suicide, her son from her first marriage drowned, etc. When these things happened she was obviously upset, but WAY more upset than a normal person would be. AS it TURNED OUT she had had an incestuous relationship with her twin brother when she was in high school, and when she tried to move on, he would follow her and kill everyone in her life that she loved more than she loved him, until he finally killed her.

I'm sure that's not anything like what you were talking about, but it kind of sounds that way from the way you described it. :3
