Bad Websites
Sunday. 7.20.08 9:44 pm

It's surprising to me as a amateur designer and programmer how poorly designed a lot of websites are. I got a phishing email today that linked to some website that sells some kind of information package about making money online. Just for the fuck of it I visited the website. I was immediately struck by it's poor design and lack of any php whatsoever. There wasn't even a decent contact form. Just an image that brings up the mailto. (Your default email program). Worst of all though, the package they were selling wasn't even protected. By simply adding /member/ to the end of their domain name, I was able to access the page where you can download their file without even having to log in.

And, good Samaritan that I am, I sent them an email pointing out this fatal flaw and offering to fix it. For a moderate fee. Who knows if they'll respond, or if anyone is even running that website. But I've done my civic duty.

You may get a response... in the form of 1000 emails offering to sell you a packet for making quick money online. :P

I don't think that morals exist when it comes to stuff like this.

That's my point. I mean, they probably do something to them to keep them from going all brown and nasty, but I doubt that makes them taste better.

yeah, I definitely give money to the USO and stuff. My friend told me though if I wanted to support the troops that I should be giving my money to McCain. I thought that was an interesting comment.

I always think about how after the Holocaust we said, "never again", but these days when there is a dictator who is gassing and executing large numbers of his population and targeting them because of their race (like the Kurds in Iraq, or the Karen peoples in Burma) we're still so hesitant to do anything about it. I think it's sad that we had to wait until Iraq appeared to be a threat to us personally before going in and doing something to stop the killings.
