FDA approves new wrinkle cream
Saturday. 12.2.06 12:08 pm
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Restylane ®, an injection for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, the lines between the nose and mouth.

Restylane ® is the first and only FDA-approved dermal filler made of a biodegradable non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA(TM)). Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all living organisms and provides volume and fullness to the skin.

Restylane ® is formulated as a clear gel and uses a dual mechanism of action to correct wrinkles and folds. Upon being injected beneath the skin's surface, the NASHA gel adds natural volume and lift to smooth wrinkles and folds. The NASHA gel integrates into dermal tissue then attracts and binds to water molecules to help maintain volume. Restylane is gradually degraded by the body's own mechanism and disappears without any residue. Results can be seen immediately following treatment and last six months, or even longer.

IT SOUNDS PRETTY GOOD BUT WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Possible side effects: No serious side effects are known as yet, but minor ones can include inflammation, bruising, and swelling at the injection site, and bumpiness or lumpiness after injection. Allergies are rare, notes Dr. Moy.

NO SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS? WELL IF YOU LOOKED LIKE A CREATURE BEFORE THE TREATMENT I GUESS IT WOULD BE OK.

Ever read Brave New World?
Stuff like this always reminds me of human's ever-lasting search for the fountain of youth. However, in the book, what basically happens is that in the future everybody looks, at most, 30 years old for the rest of their lives, but everyone just kinda keels over at 60. Sadly enough, everyone is fine with that.

hahah, wtf?... why do those things always have scary side effects?
but hey, if people listened to the scary possible side effects then no one would take medications or undergo those procedures (upset stomach, dry mouth, headache, blood clot, heart attack, stroke...lions, and tigers, and bears!.. oh my!)

oh, and we already live in the brave new world. not to the full extent, but we're getting there. aldous huxley had it right.
