Teens avoid pregnancy but not sex

Teen pregnancy rates are on the decline because more kids are using effective contraception - not because they're refraining from sex, researchers said yesterday.
The researchers, from Columbia University and the Alan Guttmacher Institute, said their study casts doubt on federal funding of programs that promote abstinence until marriage without discussing contraception options.
Using data from the National Survey of Family Growth, investigators examined sexual behavior and contraceptive use among young women ages 15 to 19 and found their pregnancy risk declined 38% between 1995 and 2002.
