*giant aborted fetuses*
Wednesday. 3.21.07 11:13 pm
On Monday I was walking to class, like usual, when I noticed that some giant signs had been erected on Cater Lawn. As I got closer I realized that they were 20 foots signs with photos of aborted fetuses. Their tiny arms and legs cut off and sitting next to a dime, their tiny bodies laying in the palm of a hand, and pictures of them chopped up into pieces. And lots and lots of blood. There were 3 signs, in a triangle, so no matter where you came from, you saw the fetuses.

I think it's good and great and grand that we have free speech in this country. I was disgusted by the pictures, but at the same time happy to see that our campus allows people to demonstrate and hand out pamphlets (in this case bullshit propaganda).

My main problem with these "pro-lifers" is this: Why not invest all the time, energy and money you WASTED on these disgusting, pointless signs and pamphlets, on educating the uneducated and providing birth control and counseling to those who are unable to get it for themselves? And don't call me fucking pro-death because I feel a woman has a right to choose what she wants to do with her body. Making abortion illegal isn't going to stop people from getting one. The issue now shouldn't be whether or not abortion should stay legal. It should be what can we do to lower the number of abortions in the country?

They had a "free speech" zone set up for students to write what they felt about the signs or abortion or whatever. Interestingly enough the free speech zone was about 3 feet from the signs. What a joke.

I felt really sorry for the all the parents and potential students that were getting campus tours on Monday. Auburn is pretty big, it has over 20,000 students, and there are tours daily. I wonder how many prospective students might not choose Auburn now because some ignorant know nothing group thought it would be okay to bombard the campus with worthless bullshit.

Haha, now there's an entry title designed to attract attention! :D

When I was in high school, we had some sort of project where someone came up with a pro-life poster complete with mutilated fetuses (feti?). It was put up on the wall at the back of the class, and christ was it creepy to have that staring at the back of my neck.

I would imagine those posters to be the type of thing that's horrible, yet so hard to look away from. I completely agree, though, that a woman has the right to choose what she does with her body and that they should have put for the effort to educated the uneducated. It might have been more effective

I doubt the posters will make an impact or make people think something other than "eeww.. that's disgusting." I agree that we should instead educate the uneducated.

Agree!
I've always wished they would take all the money they sink in their "free speech" activities and put it into taking care of all the unwanted babies that are born when girl don't decide on abortion for whatever reason. The kids need the money more than college students need to be bombarded with grotesque pictures on campus!

I guess they feel as strongly about abortion as you do about them demonstrating what they feel about abortion. Personally, I don't agree with abortion unless the circumstances are exceptional, but I wouldn't parade my views in such a graphic manner. Each to their own and all that... You're right, educating people who don't know any better is definitely important. Maybe you should protest about it :-D

I remember when that exhibit was at the university I went to. Eeeeeek...it was a horrible way to start off the spring semester with all those gigantic pictures plastered all over the open court area.

Isn't Alabama a part of the bible belt? If so, then those signs probably attracted more people than they repelled since they appealed to both catholic and protestant religions... not to mention islamic parents of students. Personally, my views on abortion are a little shaky. I oppose them if its strictly a quality vs sanctity of life issue, and while I'll always concede that a couple should have the right to choose whether or not a baby should be born, does that mean that everyone shoul dhave the right to choose whether or not they want to sell a kidney if they need the money, and they can't afford living without that money? The abortion topic is so complicated.

All I know is that I'm NEVER having an abortion myself.

there are these people that always come to my school and do the same thing and its really annoying because they wont leave you alone until you take one of their damn pamphlets.
