Over priced movies and kids.

As I mentioned in my previous blog I have THE worst luck when it comes to going to the movies with my boyfriend. Whenever we go we always end up wishing we had just waited for it to come out to rent. Sure there are some that “require” you go to the actual theater, but when you’re easily spending 25+ bucks for a show, popcorn and drinks only for the experience to be ruined it’s no longer worth it. Now everyone deserves to get out, BUT when you bring in the problem you better take responsibility. I do NOT mean saying sweetly, “Now behave XXX.” only to do nothing when XXX doesn’t behave. I mean you better be willing to either take your kid “to the woodshed” or leave. While we both spent the same amount of money I did not bring the problem. If I did then you’d be hearing me telling XXX that he better shape up or we’re gone. It’s rude, thoughtless, disrespectful and impolite to the crowd that the kids are disturbing to do nothing (this includes leaving when it’s obvious your kid will not behave). Why parents put up with that sort of behavior in their children is beyond me. Seriously who reading this got away with that sort of thing as a child? I know I sure as hell didn’t.

So what do I do when I’m stuck in a movie theater with 4+ little rug rats running around, screaming and annoying the crap out of me? I wait 15 minutes and if I don’t hear any acceptable discipline I then shout, “If those kids are yours shut them up or leave…PLEASE!” After all “it takes a village to raise a child”. :) I do it with the kindness of my heart and the anger that’s built up inside of me from parents not handling their kids for God knows what reason...honest. I’m also not exaggerating on this either. It happens EVERY single time we go to the movies. The odd thing is it only happens when I go with my boyfriend; no matter what time of day, how long we hold off on going so it won’t be as crowded, etc. It always happens!! It’s like Gods way of saying, “Mark this as reason number 6 for not having kids Katrina. No matter how you are your kids could turn out like this.” I took note and yes it is number 6 on my list. :)

For silver. here is my review of the remake of Pride and Prejudice 2005. It is the same color as the backgrounds so it won’t be spoiled for anyone who wants to try out this God awful, boring piece of crap they call a movie. :)

If you love the novel, don’t watch this movie. Heed my warning from one Pride and Prejudice novel lover to another. Hell, even the two remakes before this was better, Pride and Prejudice (2003) and Bride and Prejudice (2004)! Have you SEEN those two movies? Ok Bride and Prejudice is my favorite of the two remakes after the 1995 mini series, although Pride and Prejudice 2003 does have one of my favorite scenes/quotes. :) Enough about those remakes, this is supposed to be about the piece of crap released in 2005.

Why do I loath this remake so much considering I like the other two? Well they went their own way and did their own “thing” with the plot line. Unlike Pride and Prejudice 2005 those two took a new spin. The 2003 took the basic plot line and brought it to 2003 while Bride and Prejudice made it into a musical and took it to India and England . Pride and Prejudice 2005 was supposed to bring the book to life, not kill it slowly and painfully while putting the audience to sleep. While the cast was well chosen, whoever wrote the script and gave the ok on all of the changes, like leaving out characters that played a decently important role, should be taken out and shot like Old Yeller.

They couldn’t even get the simple things correct. Since when was their small country town turn into some hick hee-haw village with hoe-downs? I mean their ball looked more like something you’d see after a barn raising. Another example would be when Elizabeth went to went to her friend’s place and spent a few months there meeting Colonel and Darcy. Darcy is supposed to propose to her while in the house and then give her a letter in the park. They switched it around and added rain. I guess how Jane wrote it wasn’t dramatic or good enough for them. The whole movie is so slow, boring and lacks the humor the novel has. They cut out scenes, characters and made the movie completely dry. Even the small moments of humor they did keep did not save this piece of crap movie.

My advice is to save your money and rent Bride and Prejudice. It’s a funny musical with the basic plot of Pride and Prejudice. If you don’t mind sudden moments where people burst into song and dance I’m sure you’d enjoy this movie much better. Although I am guilty in saying I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice 2003, it’s not for everyone since although they do keep moments the same I am not so sure it’s for people looking for something like Pride and Prejudice since it’s not really. If you must see something on the novel then I suggest you spend the money to rent or buy the mini series. Although it is older, much older by comparison, it is well done and very good. Although like everything there are slight changes you over look them since you are not bored to death counting the seconds of freedom from the horrible vision in front of you. :) So there’s my review of Pride and Prejudice 2005.

Marie Antoinette

I actually did something this weekend besides sit at home watching anime, reading manga and cleaning house! I know, don’t die from shock on me. XD Saturday my mom was dropping my niece at my sister’s place for the weekend and was leaving her car. (I won’t go into that since it still ticks me off.) She of course wanted a way to get home and we hadn’t spent a full day together in a long time so we decided to use the movie gift cards my mother-in-law gave my boyfriend and I and make a day of it. We went shopping, I didn’t plan on it...it just happened...honest, had lunch and just a very nice time with my mom. I think we’ll start doing our monthly weekends again; lunch and a movie. I tend to have better luck with her then with my boyfriend when it comes to movies, but I’ll save that for a later blog. :)

The movie we saw was Marie Antoinette. For those of you who don’t know she was Queen of France and when I was growing up she was well known for her spending habits, many lovers and for being beheaded without a real trial. Now, however, it has come to light that her “crimes” were highly exaggerated. I was really looking forward to this movie. I like historical movies or movies of novels that I love. The last one I saw, Pride and Prejudice, upset me...a lot. They ruined one of my very favorite novels. I didn’t realize until I got home this movie is also based on a biography. The only word that can describe this movie is fluff. The only good thing was the music. I thought they picked great music to go with the story...too bad that’s almost all they got right besides the casting.

For those of you wanting to know more on my opinion of the movie and why I consider it fluff read on; below is a spoiler which is why I have the text the same color as my background. I don’t want to spoil it for those that want to see the movie though. :)

This 2 hour movie is almost pure fluff. There is no other word to better describe this pos. They expect you to seriously read between the lines in this movie and to go in knowing a lot about her life. Ask yourself when was the last time you read up on Marie Antoinette. It wasn’t recently was it? Although there is no proof of her ever having an actual affair with the Count Axel von Fersen the movie acts like she did, and that it was long considering how they flew past years, months and days. They filled 2 hours with almost nothing of value. It wasn’t even entertaining fluff. It was boring and slow fluff. I have yet to read the biography so maybe that is why it sucked so much. Maybe the biography does not write how or why she died? Maybe the biography left out the many reasons why she became disliked by the nobility of France ? Maybe the biography left out how much she changed from when she was 14 to 38 years old?

/sigh This movie had such great potential. Marie Antoinette’s life, while short, was great. It had everything that a script writer and movie goers could ask for and yet they ruined it. An arranged marriage at an early age where the father-in-law had a mistress who had the King wrapped around her finger and the young bride and groom who were thrown together with all of the pressure of being the next in line for the throne could possibly have. You have a messenger who goes back and carries all of the Queen’s messages to her mother who seems to play both sides and yet in the movie they show him as a close friend. Although in the movie they call her a young Queen if you’ve never heard of her before you would not realize that she is only 14 and Louis is only 15! I heard murmurs in the movie theater about how he must be gay or how stupid he was for not having sex sooner. Is it me or that incredibly hypocritical? On one hand the US has this high young teen mother rate that is disturbing at best and yet here is a decent sized audience wondering why these barely teens aren’t having sex?! You can’t have it both ways.

It shows Marie giving birth in the room full of nobility, but for the second birth it just shows Louis. Do we know the room is empty or why it was? No we don’t have a clue. It’s one thing when a movie has you wanting to learn more about someone or something, but with how they did this movie for anyone who took this as pretty much fact, since it’s based on the biography of Marie Antoinette, would have no idea that they left out huge chunks of her history. I’m not talking about her childhood, screw her childhood. I’m talking about her history with France and Louis. The reasons for why she was beheaded. The reasons for why the country and the nobility was against her.

So all in all I’m sad I paid so much for this movie. To have the last thing shown her telling Louis that she was saying goodbye was stupid. The last thing shown should have been the crowds of French people cheering because of her death. All in all it was a pathetic portrayal of a woman who deserved more credit then what they showed and given way too much “fluff” which enhanced our views that she was what those past rumors always said; childish, spoiled, spent money without a thought, gambled far too much and had lovers.
