This has made me very sad
Tuesday. 4.10.07 12:00 pm
Violin virtuoso Joshua Bell, one of the top 3 violinists alive today, plays for 45 minutes in a Washington Metro.

Not one sap stops by to appreciate the music, or the skill.

Article and video below, just be warned, the article´s pretty sad.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/04/AR2007040401721.html?hpid=topnews

Really, is our life so bloody bland and useless that we cant stop a few minutes to listen to something of beauty? And funnily, the only ones that noticed him were children. Have we adults really become so blind? Heck, I´d bet an Elvis impersonator singing badly or a half naked PETA chick wouldve drawn 10X more attention. :(

EDIT: A few interesting facts about the "audience"

Federal employees are on flex time. They can work any hours they choose, as long as they put in a full day. Few of the people rushing through the station had to punch a clock. Most of them could have been a few minutes late without repercussions.

Bush nearly kills himself. Again.
Sunday. 4.8.07 4:22 pm

Credit Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally with saving the leader of the free world from self-immolation.

Mulally told journalists at the New York auto show that he intervened to prevent President Bush from plugging an electrical cord into the hydrogen tank of Ford's hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid at the White House last week. Ford wanted to give the Commander-in-Chief an actual demonstration of the innovative vehicle, so the automaker arranged for an electrical outlet to be installed on the South Lawn and ran a charging cord to the hybrid. However, as Mulally followed Bush out to the car, he noticed someone had left the cord lying at the rear of the vehicle, near the fuel tank.

"I just thought, 'Oh my goodness!' So, I started walking faster, and the President walked faster and he got to the cord before I did. I violated all the protocols. I touched the President. I grabbed his arm and I moved him up to the front," Mulally said. "I wanted the president to make sure he plugged into the electricity, not into the hydrogen This is all off the record, right?"

Return of the Geek

Adapting to being a teacher isnt being that hard, really. After 2 stints as an art director, I´ll gladly take 40 screaming kids over one stuck-up client. At least kids cant bother me outside working hours, and dont expect me to make colossal changes to a commercial that is done, ready and approved. The only down side is that the hours leave me with less little free time than what im used to, and that has left me stuck behind some sketch comissions.

I still after 4 years have yet to get used to the oversexuality of the teenagers here, but at least I can keep a straight face when I refuse an offer to "ficar" (make-out) by a student, unlike my earlier years where I´d curse them and tell them that I see them as being morally sick. I really cant do anything about it, its already part of the culture, nothing I do will ever change the fact that most brazilian girls by the age of 15 have had about 50-100 make-out partner, with a good half being sex partners. *sigh* Sometimes I do feel like weeping for them, especially seeing that the average brazilian boy thinks of a girl as a free prostitute.

At least now I´ve taken to reading comics again, and my anime library is slowly growing once more,a s well as my bookshelf, anything to help me forget daily problems (or fill the time wasted in buses). I´ll be updating the webcomic on Friday, Im behind on 4 colour drawings, and 3 sketches.

Another pay-per-post forum/community following the example of Mylot and Dormcheck, in the style of Myspace and Orkut, is the newcomer Hashbush.

What is it about?
Unlike Mylot and Dormcheck, everything you do in the site is rewarded with activity points, which get converted to dollars and then you are paid, the activities include-
-Adding pics to your personal gallery
Writing about anything in your personal blog
Making a new Poll
Writing quizzes
Making comments on other´s´profiles.

How much do you make?
I havent done much beyond join, as well as fill my profile, and Ive got an activity point. Seems every action you do earns you one point, 10 points = 1 cent. Good rated posts can earn up to 100 points, and referrals are worth 10-100 points. Youre also going to be able to put your Google Adsense ads on your profile to earn extra money.

Design/Speed?
Aside from the rather unprofessional drawing and layout, (if there´s anybody from Hashbush reading this, listen, I can do a better logo, contact me), the site suffers from very low speeds due to the servers being unable to handle the stress.

Overall its a pretty good site, aside from the little niggles, and the community seems to be composed of a rather fun crowd. The earnings arent spectacular, Mylot still remains the better option (having earned over $100 from them, I can attest to that), but its a worthy contender. You can join Hashbush by clicking here.

Hashbush final score- 6/10
