Nas and Diddy Get It Poppin With Wifey, Game Spits 100 Bars
    Thursday. 9.7.06 11:42 pm
Kelis and Nas shot their brand new video for the "Blindfold Me" collabo yesterday:

This video is the business. Kelis looks hot and Nas comes with his usual swagger. You gotta love it. Hopefully it's just a preview of how Hip Hop Is Dead will be.

Diddy announced to his myspace fam a few days ago that his main chick Kim Porter is having twins:

I wonder what that chick Sara (the other Atlanta woman who supposedly just had his baby) thinks about all this. It looks like Kim aint worried about her.

    game.jpg

Game's new diss track has leaked called "The Funeral". He spits 100 bars and some people are saying this is the best they've heard from him in a while. You be the judge.

    First Week Sales
    Thursday. 9.7.06 11:39 pm

we all know by now, my highly-anticipated and critically-acclaimed debut album BLUE COLLAR sold about 15,000 copies during the first week. As it stands now in the mass-marketing, single-driven genre of Hip-Hop music, this is considered a flop or a failure.? Or is it?

    * Akon, the well-known R&B star, sold about 5,000 copies his first week.? And now, he holds a platinum plaque for his debut album TROUBLE.
    * Lyfe Jennings: 6,000 copies his first week; also platinum.
    * Maroon 5: 3,000 copies their first week; now multi-platinum.

While none of these artists that I named are rappers, they all understood the ingredients for success:

    1. good music,

    2. touring & great stage shows,

    3. humble attitudes (checking their ego at the door) and finally

    4. never giving up.

This is something that rap artists today have yet to fully understand the importance of. Just look at it: 9 out of 10 rap concerts are wack. After one or two singles, the rest of the album is intentionally trash, but we, as the artists, do not care because we have our singles. Also, some rappers are so insecure that if anyone gives us constructive criticism, or [in some cases] is just a little overzealous as a fan, we are ready to spaz out on them. Rappers have become divas (bitches), and the rap industry, radio, DJs and journalists have become complicit, spineless cowards.

Do not get it twisted; I am not heartbroken over my first week sales because I understand that through my appearances on shows like Jimmy Kimmel [You Tube], Carson Daly & David Letterman, my forthcoming tours with Wu-Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest as well as many opportunities that are opened for me through the Creator ALL afford me the chance to do what no other rapper has done: truly earn fans that stick with me because of the quality of the product and not the smoke & mirrors of marketing & promotion.

Keep encouraging your friends to purchase BLUE COLLAR. And know that 35,000 Rhymefest records sold hold more power than 1 Million Laffy Taffy records. I have managed to sell a consistent 5,000 - 6,000 records a week since my debut on the charts. My hopes are to not only continue that trend, but to increase my unit sales through the word-of-mouth of how good BLUE COLLAR actually is, as well as coming to a city near YOU to show you how great Rhymefest is. So, on to the question:

What do first week sales in Hip-Hop really mean?

    Talk to me...
    Comments

    * Hashim says...
    *

Lyfe is a great example of going platinum, the slow burn way. He tours like a mad man, which is thinik is more important than the other stuff on your list.

Juelz and Gnarls Barkley are other examples of low first week sales that grew over time.

Lil Scrappy's "Money In The Bank" Game, Too Short Drops Album 16
    Thursday. 9.7.06 11:35 pm

Lil Scrappy has a computer game surfacing now? If that's what you want to call it. I didn't take the time out to play it but maybe somebody can fill me in on what it was like. I'm sure it's not "Madden '07" but hey...

    Hit it up at: http://www.lilscrappy.com/game

    TooShort1_small.jpg

And lost under all of the Outkast hoopla last week was the fact that Too Short dropped his long-awaited album, Blow The Whistle. This makes what... 16? What ever happened to album No. 10 being the finale?

Check it, before I bought it I asked my boy at the store (the mom and pops store of course... because you know that's where I like to spend my hard earned dollars) how it was and he told me that it was, "O.K. but it wasn't what he expected."

He thought it would be more of that vintage 'Short, and judging from "Blow The Whistle" I thought it would be too. He was right -- it's not vintage 'Short but it is a real good album especially on the production end with contributions from all the big dogs, including Jazze Pha and Lil Jon.

Chris Brown Hits The A-Town, Billboard Music Conference This Weekend
    Thursday. 9.7.06 11:30 pm
There are a couple of big events taking place in Atlanta this weekend and I'm trying to find my way to both of them at some point.

The first event that every aspiring artist, industry professional or anything along those lines needs to attend is The Billboard R&B Hip Hop Conference and Award Show. It's all going down from now until Friday (Sept. 6-8) at The Renaissance Waverly Hotel, so if you're trying to grind this music thing out and really kick in some doors then this is the place to be.

Click here for a schedule of events.

(Yeah you see what Chris is throwing up)

And then... Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Cherish and the rest hit Chastain Parkon Saturday, September 9 at 7:00PM. If you've had a chance to catch "BET's Access Granted" lately then you may have seen some of the behind the scene's footage of the concert. It promises to be BIG -- it's already sold out so if you haven't picked up your tickets yet you might be in trouble.

Not to be outdone, Lil Wayne, Dem Franchise Boys and Juelz are expected to be in the building as well.

    Beyonce's "B'Day" Review
    Thursday. 9.7.06 11:26 pm

Next week, Beyonce's second entry, B'Day, is expected to debut at No. 1 with 600,000 units. Is the album really worthy of all the hype? Dig in for one person's opinion on B'Day

    1. "Deja Vu" (featuring Jay-Z): You've already heard this. Whatever Bey was aiming for on this track must have worked, because it's the No.1 song in the country as we speak.

    2. "Get Me Bodied": There's an intricate pull-and-push vibe here: Swizz Beatz works a feral, snake-charmer beat, while B's vocals are spritzing away without stretching too much. Why this "certified banger" isn't a single is anyone's guess.

    3. "Suga Mama" : Again, tug-and-tuck; Beyonce's soothing voice swiftly complements the funky beat on this one. Definitely a sure-shot.

    4. "Upgrade U" (featuring Jay-Z): The main problem here is Jay. I understand that he's trying to reinvent his flow or something, but this won't get bitten because of how weird it sounds. The beat is undeniably bonkers, though.

    5. "Ring the Alarm": Bey gets credit for attempting something new, but let's leave the screaming to the professionals Kelis. Besides, I find her reason for screaming slightly disturbing: "She gon' be rocking Chinchilla coats if I let you go...She gon' take everything I own if I let you go" What a good way to re-affirm widespread stereotypical views of Black women.

    6. "Kitty Kat": Some quirky goop thing going on here over what sounds like ProTools on default. As for the half-assed rap, Bey said it best herself: "I'm not feelin' this."

    7. "Freekum Dress" : This feisty, fun romp is a welcome departure from the status quo. Plus, any song that tells the ladies to wear skimpy clothes for their men works for me.

    8. "Green Light": This song isn't terrible, but it treads on familiar territory. Even the beat sounds like a regurgitation of an old Neptunes production... until the trumpets arrive right before the three-minute mark.

    9. "Irreplaceable": A madly enjoyable jawn courtesy of Stargate -- the guys behind Ne-Yo's "So Sick." Beyonce tells her man to "get gone" without getting sappy at all. One of my favorites on the album.

10."Resentment" At just under five minutes, "Resentment" is the longest track on the album. A tediously elongated vocal exercise.

Beyonce has definitely come of age. Essentially, B'Day is a leap forward in her musical direction; for the most part, she sounds like a woman liberated. While there are definitely some missteps on B'Day -- like the two mediocre singles -- the album's best cuts are strong enough to keep your rewind button fully employed.

There is somethin about Beyonce when i look at her now, she just doesnt seem like a cool person. Maybe its just me, but when i look into her eyes now i see this weird coldness that i didnt see before when she first came into the game, but like i said maybe its just me. Im not gonna lie i dont buy female R&B albums, so really i could care less about how well her album does or even how good it is really. I will say that one track she had though called Dangerously In Love was one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. I dont want to be considered a hater it is what it is. Her C.D. has 10 tracks though??? Has it ever occured to anyone that she might have put out this album just to spite LaToya? I mean she is Beyonce, she can do whatever she wants, but i mean damn, did anybody hear about her workin on this album before it came out? Just a thought.

    Turn $10 into $40k in a few weeks! --

Do You Need an Extra Income? Quickly and legally?

Do you have a PayPal Account? (If not, the set up takes 10-15 minutes.)

You could make up to $50,000 in one month's time with more money coming in every
    month thereafter!

    $50,000 in PayPal?

That's Right! $50,000 dollars in your PayPal ACCOUNT, IT WAS PROVEN ON OPRAH and this system is COMPLETELY LEGAL!!!

You may have heard of this program (or one like it) on 20/20 or even in the Wall
Street Journal. $10 that's all it takes. I'll try to keep it short and sweet.

To get started just copy this whole page and paste it to edit it. Simply follow the instructions below and in 2 to 3 weeks, you will have as much as $50,000 dollars in your PayPal account or even more.

Most people respond to this program because of the low investment ($10 dollars) and the high profit potential. There is no limit to the income you can generate from this (you can do it over and over). If you follow the instructions, you will reach thousands of people! Honesty, Faith, and Integrity make this system work.

I think everyone has heard of PayPal. Anyone with an e-mail address can join for FREE! If you're not already a PayPal user, the first thing you need to do is sign up.

    Sign-up for PayPal here www.paypal.com

It's really easy to set up and it's FREE!!! Just make sure you have a Business or Premier account or you may be subjected to a monthly income limitation which may slow this program down.

Send $5 to the first person on the list by using the paypal “send money” feature, and include in the email “Please add me to your list.” This keeps the program legal. Then send another $5 to the 5th person on the list, with an email that says, “Thank you. I’ve joined”

Remove the 1st e-mail address and place your address at the bottom. This moves the 2nd to 1st, 3rd to 2nd, 4th to 3rd, and the 5th place into 4th.

DO NOT TRY TO PLACE YOURSELF IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT WILL ONLY REACH THE PEOPLE YOU SEND IT TO, AND THEN YOUR NAME WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE LIST!
If you do this the way it was designed, it will reach thousands by the time your
name gets to the top. REMEMBER TO SEND a $5.00 dollar donation to the 1st e-mail
address and the message "PLEASE ADD ME TO YOUR LIST," and send an email with the words 'THANK YOU. I'VE JOINED" and the other $5.00 donation to the 5th person.
This helps the 5th person keep track of progress of the letter and continue to send out more emails. Here is the list:

    1. [email protected]
    2. [email protected]
    3. [email protected]
    4. [email protected]
    5. [email protected]
Make sure it's the same e-mail address that you used to open your PayPal
account. This is the way you will receive payment.

Now that you have paid the 1st person and 5th person and sent them both an
email, a note, and placed your e-mail address in the 5th place, then what you need to do is post your letter. You can post on craigslist.org, message boards and newsgroups (there are thousands!), and you can even send in an email to your email list. IT IS YOUR JOB AS THE 5TH PERSON ON THE LIST TO ENSURE THERE ARE AT LEAST 20 "THANK YOU. I'VE JOINED" replies. The fifth person is the guardian of the system! If there are not at least 20 replies then the fifth person will keep sending/posting the letter until there is.

MAKE SURE YOU SEND $5 DOLLARS TO THE FIRST PERSON TO THANK THEM FOR WHEN THEY WERE THE GUARDIAN OF THE LETTER AND $5 DOLLARS TO THE FIFTH PERSON SO MORE EMAILS CONTINUE TO GO OUT!

Now the fun happens….we reap what we sow. Other people will see your posting and do the exact same thing, bringing you lots and lots of dollars!! Seriously, it’s common sense….you do it and 25 or more people see and do the same thing…so on and so forth…everyone wins!

You will receive thanks AND THE SAME BLESSING. When your name is on the 1st
slot, 8,000 to 15,000 people will send you 5 dollars! Keep in mind the most you
spent is $10 DOLLARS! (Remember this: what goes around comes around!)

"Ring The Alarm": is about Rihanna & Jay-Z...you know, this whole album is about how much beyonce's in-love with Jay and all he talks about is how he's fuckin' her.....oh, well!!!

Anyway, I have never heard Jay say that he was -in-love with beyonce, I only her beyonce talk about how much she love s him.....!

    I'll rate this album 3/5...

DIS WAS DA WORST CD DAT HAS CAME OUT DIS YEAR DA ONLY REASON WHY SHE SELLING LIKE DAT IS BECAUSE OF WHO SHE ARE. SHE COULD HAVE DONE VERY MUCH BETTER. ITS NOT A R&B ALBLUM IT HAS NO SLOW SONGS. IT HAS A MORE A HIP-HOP FEELING TO IT. I WASNT PLEASE WITH THIS ONE SHE SHOULD HAVE PUT A LOT MORE EFFORT INTO THIS PROJECT. SHE FROM DA SOUTH SO ITS ALL GOOD BUT THIS ALBLUM SUCKS. SHE STOP MAKIN DESE MOVIES IN PUT MORE EFFECT INTO HER MUZIK.

    Posted by: BEEDA1 at September 7, 2006 08:31 AM

i love "ugrade u" and "kittykat". even if u dont like her music u cant deny that the girl is definetly in her own lane. she deserves all the success she gets.

Posted by: brie at September 7, 2006 08:35 AM

    @ barbaraa

Jay cant say he in love, ole G's dont do that. But Common said "we don't know how till we older men". he aint been doin her dirty so i'll asume he does.

I aint buy this cd yet cause, out of 4 the the songs i heard, one was "freak em dress" and that shit gave me a headqche, all of them are in the same uptempo catagory. On her last cd, 2 songs i enjoyed the most were "me, myself and i"(u should here it chopped and screwed, makes it 10Xs hotter) and "dangerously in love". I'ma need her to slow it down next time if she gonna want me to cop it on openning day.

Posted by: sizzle at September 7, 2006 08:37 AM

people are so hard to please.....we conplain about how her last cd was full of ballads and now we complain that her new cd is up tempo. now matter what she does someone will be disappointed. beyonce has an inner peace that most of us wish we had, as long as she is content with herself then she dont have to worry about opinions

Posted by: trinise at September 7, 2006 08:48 AM

i fuckin love her 1st record and i like this one as well...her first album "Yes" "speechless" "How You Like" "Signs" "Me Myself And I" "Dangerously In Love" "Baby Boy" all them songs were the shit! i wish she had ballads a lot more on this album but i still enjoy it none the less

Posted by: Infamous LB at September 7, 2006 08:55 AM

I agree with u Trinise. Kudos to u. I'm a ballad person myself but i can appreciate this more aggressive sound and I appreciate that its only 10 songs instead of a whole bunch of fillers. I think she shows more of her personality on this album not saying that it's about her personal life but u def get to see her sense of humor on tracks like 'sugar mama' and her playful side on 'Kitty Kat'. But I love the passion she sings with on 'Resentment'. You would swear she's going through this right now. I definitely feel this is an album for the ladies. I think women can all relate at some point or at some level on this album. I give this album 4.5/5.

I'm sorry, but am I in the blog-room with the same people that have been BASHING "Ding" for the last four weeks. We've all heard much of this album WAYYYY before it came out, and we thought it was weird and wack and way under Beyonce's capabilities.

IS MATTHEW PAYING YOU? Why is she getting a 4/5 rather than the 3 or 2.5 she deserves? What happened to "She rushed this album," "She's lost her mind," "I hate Freakum Dress," "All her songs sound alike."

I'm not being a hater or anything...i'm just very confused by this review and these comments. Buy the way...how much to journalist get to take a dive?

Posted by: Corry Joe at September 7, 2006 09:13 AM

I don't think it's a good album or a bad one. Its just ok. I think she rush this cd because it's not better than the first one. She could have waited till after the Dreamgirls movie came out and just concentrated on that. Then had more time and work on her cd. She just got off tour with the Destiny Child situation. Plus I don't see why they push Kelly Rowland back for what. I think it all came down to Latoya getting some type of buzz and B's father wasn't having that.

I feel you on her seeming different... she said in interviews that she realizes she has to be a lot more careful with what she does and says lately (because they often twist her words and print lies/rumors in tabloids and stuff), so it seems like every interview she is being almost overly careful with her response, making it seem cold. But i dont think her attitude is diff or nothing.

And i REALLY don't think LeToya was even a consideration. Beyonce said herself she was happy for Toya being #1 and Toya thanks Beyonce, Kelly, and LaTavia in the liner notes of her album. So i don't think its an issue.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Kelly got pushed back b/c of all these ppl being released in the fall (Christina, Janet, Jessica Simpson, Monica, Justin Timberlake, Fergie, etc) wasn't no one gonna be checking for Kelly. I think come February 2007 it'll be on though.

Disclaimer: I am a fan of Beyonce, but...

She didn't live up to her potential on this album. I wasn't looking for a Dangerously In Love 2, but I expect more from her than what she put out. When I first heard "Deja Vu" I thought she was taking it back, but still keeping it on a grown and sexy vibe. Then I heard "Ring The Alarm" and all of that anticipation and excitement went down the toilet.

The problem with this album is she sounds like she is singing over tracks made for mixtapes instead of music for songs. There is no memorable melody for any song other than "Deja Vu" and "Irreplaceable".

If the story of her not telling her dad about recording an album is true and she only did it in 2 weeks, then it definitely sounds like it.

She'll go platinum on name alone, but she truly missed the normal high standards she adheres to. There's nothing wrong with artistic expression and going outside of the box, but she seems to have dumbed down on this album. Once again (for the rabid Beyonce fans) I am a fan of her, but I am just giving my unbiased opinion on her new album.

I THINK THIS REVIEW WAS FAIR.APPARENTLY,B WAS SINGING ON BEATS WHICH EVEN SOME HARDCORE RAPPER WOULD WANT TO SPIT A HOT VERSE ON,IN THIS CASE I'M REFERENCING THOSE BEATS WHICH SWIZZ LACED FOR HER....THE ALBUM IS TIGHT ALTHOUGH IN MY OPINION,ITS NOT BETTER THAN LE TOYA'S ALBUM

Posted by: Million bucks at September 7, 2006 09:49 AM

10 songs is all you are allowed to get paid for off an album if you know anything about the music industry so why give them feebies you want get paid for, save them for the next go round. Also I guess he cant say he love her if in one verse he say he (bagging B), so go figure. I never bought a Destiny Childs album. And want buy this one either.

I copped the album yesterday, and I think it's great. Your review is on point, too.

    >>>>>i love "ugrade u" and "kittykat". even if u dont like her music u cant deny that the girl is definetly in her own lane. she deserves all the success she gets.

Agreed. I like Ring the Alarm also. Deja Vu was aight. 'Bodied' is somewhat tolerable. The rest of that sh1t is trash! I've had it for like a week now and Ive been tryna MAKE it grow on me, but it just wont happen!

Can Remy Ma Hold it Down Without TS?

Or can Terror Squad hold it down without Remy Ma?

"I swear mothafuckas gonna hear the Squad/Ya’ll betta fear Prospect and Joe the god/Armageddon, Tony Sunshine and Remy Ma"

These few bars, taken from "She's Gone" on There's Something About Remy, were the words that ensured her loyalty and pledge to the South Bronx rap crew. These words appear to be a thing of the past now.

Most guys, primarily the kids from Brooklyn and other lower areas in New York City that don't favor Terror Squad as much as the Uptowners, say the only thing sparking their interest in Terror Squad is the street savvy, 'hood chick swagger that is Remy Ma. They say she's the backbone of the crew's existence, and that they wouldn't even give TS the benefit of the doubt without her present.

    tseis.jpgcubanlink.jpg

But Remy's departure comes as no surprise, as Fat Joe and his ways first alienated the original members Triple Seis and Cuban Link after Pun's death, and later coerced Remy to step away from the crew, from whom she later reconciled with after a short period of time. This isn't the first time she has decided to step back. In addition to this, Tony Sunshine, the R&B crooner who isn't an original front man of TS but appeared heavily throughout the first TS album, STILL hasn't dropped his debut. Prospect, another talented rapper on TS' roster, hasn't made much of a sound in the past couple of years. Also, Armageddon is doing his own thing. But why should he even have to if Fat Joe has all the resources and connects necessary to produce an Armageddon (or even Tony Sunshine) LP? My assertion would be because Joe only thinks about himself.

Although he has a little bit of street cred, Joe is something like another Benzino -- years of trying, years of failing. Even my peoples in The X don't even deal with Joe like that. Basically, it's because we see this: Forget all my mans and everyone else who has the potential to be a good artist, I'm gonna keep pushing myself in hopes that I can grab another successful LP. I'll worry about them later.

It was enough that Pun passed away. Even though the Terror Squad hasn’t been that successful, can’t they preserve the memory that once made up the Squad? Pun wouldn't be happy to see where TS is today. And now that Remy's pretty much gone, the streets are pretty much going to sabotage whatever clout TS ever had. They're finished.
