Although today's hike/climb was a definite good one, I am paying the price. I can understand my face and legs being burned like they are because I didn't put any cun block on them. My face I avoided because I don't like the slimey feeling it gives me. And my legs I just didn't think about putting any on. My arms and shoulders, however, should not be burned just as badly, yet they are. I put frickin SPF 50 on my shoulders, chest and arms and they're still burned just as much as the parts that I didn't put anything on. It doesn't make sense. Next time I go out there, I'm either going to have to seriously layer that stuff on or I'm going to have to purchase SPF 100 or something. It's absolutely ridiculous that I'm so white even using decently strong sun block doesn't work.

Needless to say I'll be applying quite a bit of Aloe Vera over the next few days, at least. And I'll be doing my best to avoid the sun and heat unless absolutely necessary.

I also had a little mishap on the side of the mountain today. I guess I got my legs a little too far apart and when I went to move again, I slipped on some loose rocks and fell flat on my stomach. My hand happened to land on a cactus though. Just a small one, but about 10 prickers came out in my hand when I managed to get back up. One particular one went completely through the small web of skin between my middle and ring fingers. It'll probably bruise. You can still see some of the spots where I was punctured. My hand will probably be sore for a couple days, but then I should be fine.

Alrighty, I just wanted to write about the fact that I'm so white SPF 50 doesn't work on my skin. And my falling mishap. I'm not sure when I'll write again. Hopefully soon. Everyone have a safe Fourth of July!!!

with me ... without me
Sunday. 6.27.10 5:25 pm
Knight and Day was a funny movie. So was Grown Ups. Over all it was a good weekend. I'm definitely not looking forward to having to go back to work, though. But it's necessary.

This weekend consisted of hanging out, watching shows on Hulu, going to see Knight and Day and Grown Ups, watching the movie The Road, getting my car washed and hiking. I got some much needed sleep. His bed really is more comfortable than the futon mattress I have on the floor. It has springs in it so at least it's more like a normal mattress than just the foam pad that usually comes with futons, but still. He has an actual bed.

Next weekend will be even nicer. I've got Monday off so it'll be a three day weekend. I plan on spending Friday, Saturday and Sunday night over at his house. I might or might not come back home. If I do come back home it'll be Sunday while he's at work so that I can get laundry done. This way I won't have to worry about it Monday. But who knows. That's still a whole week away.

I still have yet to break in my bathing suit... the one that I bought months ago. This coming weekend, though, it will be used. Whether to go swimming or to just sit in the hot tub, it will be used.

Anywho, I just wanted to give a quick update. Until next time ...

first time ...
Monday. 6.21.10 6:12 pm
Disclaimer: This entry will be about woman stuff. It's not bad or anything, but you can't say I didn't warn you.

I went to the gynecologist for the first time today. Technically I should have gone and seen one at least a few years ago, but I never had insurance or money. They say you're supposed to see one within three years of becoming sexually active or when you turn 21, whichever comes first. Well, I just kept putting it off.

It was definitely a different experience. Nothing bad. Just different. I already knew what to expect because I'd heard stories and read up on what would be happening during the procedure. I was there for an hour, but the exam itself was only maybe 15 minutes. Most of that time was just waiting and filling out the ever-annoying first time patient paperwork.

I think what helped make it a more comfortable experience was the fact that I already knew who this doctor was. He was my sister's OB/GYN and the doctor who delivered her baby. I'd been referred to this guy by her and her friend so I knew that I was going to be dealing with a good doctor. And he was. He explained everything and I already knew that he was friendly and a nice guy.

However, I am glad that I only have to deal with going to a gynecologist once a year. Even though it's a short process, I still don't like doctors.

Right now I'm just waiting on the bill from the doctor's office and the results of my PAP test. He said that everything looked normal and he didn't see any kind of abnormalities so I really shouldn't have anything to worry about.

He also told me some good news. Due to the fact that breast cancer does not run in my family, I shouldn't have to worry about getting a mammogram until I'm 40. So that's definitely a good thing. I still need to check every month, but as long as nothing suspicious pops up, then I should be good.

I think another thing that also made the experience easier was the simple fact that I'm nearing 24, I'm a grown woman and this is something that I have to accept as a part of life. It was a little weird getting naked in the room and wearing just a gown during the exam, but hey, that's just something else I have to deal with. It's not like he can exam my lady parts with my clothes still on.

This really isn't for anyone but myself. I just kind of wanted a record of it for the future. It'll be fun looking back and reading about my first GYN experience.

day four (EDIT}
Sunday. 6.13.10 3:26 pm
Objective failed.

Oh well. I made it through three days without texting anyone unless prompted.

But I gave in today and sent a couple texts. Did I receive a response? No, of course not. This is exactly why I need to not text people. I don't like being ignored. I'd rather wait until they're available to talk and let me know that by texting me. I'm always available to text back so it's not like they'd have to wait for a response from me.

I saw Splice last night. It was weird. Not bad; just weird.

I go back to work tonight. Fuck work.

I can feel myself starting to go back into that state of depression where I just want to shut the world out. I probably shouldn't let it get to that point, but that's the thing with depression. You just don't care.

I think I made a mistake last night. I guess time will tell how big of a mistake it was.

(EDIT}
Things have just taken a turn for the strange ... possibly the better, but right now it's just very unexpected. More on this development once I get things a little more figured out and can word everything correctly. So be patient Nutangers ... it could be a little while before I update again.

day three
Saturday. 6.12.10 8:28 pm
Resisting temptation has gotten a tad harder. Especially since I want to ask a bunch of my friends whether I should go see Splice or Get Him to the Greek tonight. Oh well. I want to see both, but I'm leaning more towards Splice at this point. I wasn't in the mood to watch horror earlier, but now that I've thought about it, I don't remember the last time I saw a horror movie in theaters. The idea of a human/animal hybrid that terrorizes people ... kind of tempting at this point.

Besides, if the movie is too scary for me to handle, I can always come home and watch Planet 51 to get the frightening images out of my head before sleeping lol.

Last night was interesting. I ended up seeing Jacob after a two week separation. He wanted to go look at the stars, but didn't want to go alone. I didn't mind as long as he drove. It was nice to momentarily get away from the city. The wind made it cool out and we layed on the back of his car for about half an hour just looking up at the sky. When we started hearing noises, kinda like someone was walking out of their house to see who was parked in the street, we got back in the car and left. It's got residentials, but it's far enough outside the city that it blocks enough of the light to allow people to stand outside and see the stars clearly. It was nice seeing him too. I was missing him.

I can only imagine how much clearer the sky would be if I were literally in the middle of nowhere, with no sign of lights anywhere around. See, out in Calico Basin, there's a good view of the sky, but one half of it is still obscured by the city lights over on the other side of the mountains. I don't think there's anywhere out here that you can go without having some sort of lights being in the way. Las Vegas is a very bright city and it's almost sad just how bright it is. When you're driving back to Vegas, whether you're coming from the north or the south, you can definitely tell, even 50+ miles out, that you're closing in on the city. Oh well.

Maybe in Washington there'll be places where I can go look at the stars and be completely away from lights. The only problem I might encounter ... it rains a lot in that state so the odds of the sky being clear enough for me to see the stars might be an issue.

Anywho, I have a few more hours before I have to be anywhere. Maybe I'll attempt at napping for a couple of those hours. Or I might end up going back on to Kongregate and playing more games. Until tomorrow ...
