Researchers find pancreatic cancer stem cells

Researchers working in a team, took the cancerous cells from 10 pancreatic patients and injected them into mice to grow tumors larger than the ones they were studying.

Some cancer experts believe the key to beating cancer is to target these stem cells. That would represent a different approach from the current one of shrinking tumors by killing as many cells as possible. The current approach may be flawed, these experts think, because cancer stem cells may resist standard therapies.

Hawaii Day 2
Friday. 7.13.07 1:43 pm
Day 2

I took my daughter to visit my old high school and the dirt track that I had the privelge of running on. After 21 years that track is still made of red dirt. I then took her past my elementary school and stomping grounds, (the local mall)

Later on that day,my brother took us to the winward mall. Along the way we had to drive past the old pali road. That road was really scarey. It is a dark road that winds through a path of overgrown foilage and trees. There are myths of cars stalling on that road and the driver and the passengers were never found. Rumors say that there is an old man that lives along that road and kills all those who stop or stall along that road.

We then hit the beach. I took them to swim at the beach where I grew up. It is called "walls" there is this mossy wall that you swim out to during the high tide. When the water comes to wet the wall you can run along it and slide on the moss. During high tide it is difficult to make it to the wall because the waves and the current push you back or pull you under. We made it after a bit of cuts and bruises and nearly drowning episodes.

Today, my sister flys in from Maui. Hoorah! When she gets here all the siblings will be together again! Party time!

Black Friday
Saturday. 11.25.06 11:20 am
It was awesome to see so many people waiting in the dark fog for stores to open. It seems so crazy for some but for these people, this is that one SPECIAL day of the year. To miss it would mean death.

My son works at Target and their store opened at 6am. When we got there the line went all the way around the store and into the parking lot. The parking lot was full. You saw people in their sweat suits and jackets standing in the dark and the fog was pretty heavy as well. Over in the mall parking lot, you could see parked cars way out into the areas where nobody parks. I could not BELIEVE how full the lot was at 5:45am.

I did not get to participate this year because I am so broke ass but next year I plan to be there!!!

Something about Mary
Sunday. 11.12.06 10:50 pm
Who was Mary Magdalene?

Was she the prostitute that had stones thrown at her or was she someone of greater significance? Was she the wife of Jesus of Nazareth? References in the bible show record of Mary Magdalene at important scenes and times of Jesus’ life. Mark, Matthew and John have recorded Mary Magdalene to be present during the crucifixion, after the crucifixion, and at the resurrection.

Mary would visit his tomb everyday and one day she had noticed the stone rolled away.

John 20:18: Mary Magdalene came, announcing to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord," and that He had said these things to her.

I always wondered WHY Jesus’ first appearance before his resurrection was to Mary Magdalene. If Jesus was born of man, of flesh and blood than he would also be able to fall in love and be married. As Christians are we not told to procreate and replenish the earth? Why is it that it would be different for Jesus? If this law of man and woman being the only union why is it that Jesus was not a part of this sacred union?

Rome Season I
Tuesday. 6.19.07 11:30 am
I have been hooked on this HBO show called, Rome. I don't really care for history or politics but this show has caught my interest. Nope there are no handsome actors in it but something about it intrigues me. I just cant figure out what it is.

The cast and crew are a bunch of people I have never seen before. You know how HBO does that. Just like how they did with the Sopranos and Six Feet Under. Anyhow I think it is the consipiracy and wondering if all of that really did happen. They can easily convince me since I know jack crap about history. LOL!

Ah Ha!!! I've got it!!! I am taken in by all the SEX they have on that show. I mean serious nudity and SEX to the extent of soft porn. ha ha. I could not believe it! I thought OZ was bad but this show is worse. It is much more graphic!!! I mean the sex scenes are almost rated X!!! Whew! I am glad I was able to analyze THAT one!

Becoming skillful at something you enjoy...

Becoming skillful at something you enjoy...

I think this is something that I always believed in. What is the whole sense of doing something if you dont enjoy it. I am really suffering through school right now but learning is something that I enjoy. Is it something that I am good at? NO. Does it have to be?

Learning is a never ending process. What is its geometrical shape I wonder? Maybe a circle. Imagine a learning wheel. We keep going around and around learning the same things over and over again until we get it right. We keep meeting the same types of people until we get that one right too. Does the wheel get bigger or smaller? No, I think it stays the same size we just get rid of what we learned to make room for new lessons in life. Kind of like deleting and adding. Kind of an interesting thought. Don't you think?

Learning to me means, reading books I enjoy, meeting new and excitting people, watching CSI (hee hee), going to school, learning to play a musical instrument (without music lessons), design and create a website from the bottom up without a manual... (that was a good one. I learned a lot and still learning)oh that site by the way is www.askca.org. These are things that I enjoy. Some people say that you should make money off of things that you enjoy. Yeah that would be ideal... maybe someday. Right now, I am still enjoying being the pupil. I taught hula and karate, also coached track and volleyball before. I liked it. But life got in the way. I need to finish my education and get a good job so that I can do those things that I enjoy for the rest of my lifetime.

Karate is a lifetime goal for me. I want it to be a constant part of my life till I can no longer breathe. :) Why is that? Because I enjoy it. I am talented, (thank you Lord) but not skillful. Someone said to me... "Wow you are already a black belt. So like why do you still take karate. " I smiled and simply said, "Because I want to become skillful at something I enjoy."
