Solitude
Sunday. 9.29.13 10:17 pm
My prow part the crystal sky
I see it there before me: the shimmering glass,
painting perfect purples and orangeish hues upon the placid lake
And I take, as ones take, a deep breath of solitude.

The rush of it fills me.
My breath, one ragged drain gulping water
It pangs, sticking, the dagger point of crimson solitude
Breathe out, open your eyes. Upon the placid lake, within the crystal sky.
Isnt this solitude?

Blossom and how she amuses herself
Friday. 9.13.13 10:42 am
In a reenactment of Anton Chekhov's "The Bet", my mouse has a solitary existence now. Her new solitary life has been coupled with her temperamental health, so it's hard to say if she really mourns the loss of her only companion. However, there has been... a quirky improvement in her behavior. No longer stripping her fur bald, the delicate Blossom has found a new activity with which to occupy herself.

I first noticed it one day when her red cup, one of the many toys I placed in there to try and engage her, had moved to an odd part of the tank. I had been moving it about, so I stopped for a minute, trying to remember if I had done so recently. I could not recall, but that does not mean anything, so I went to bed and lo and behold, found it on the other side of the tank.

"Heavens," I thought, "What is she up to now!"

Although, I admit, I knew not the mechanism by which she accomplished such a feat. It was only after I looked into her cage and noticed that she was missing. I looked around the back and the side (because this is the larger tank she got since her illness) and the tiny creature was no where to be found. I cast about it until finally I lifted up the red mug. There she was, curled into a tiny blinking and bewildered ball in that fairy ring of sawdust left imprinted by the cup. I replaced the cup and left her about her business.

She is very fond of the cup. I think it's about her size, for whatever reason. She goes from one end of the tank to the other end of the tank, always inside of it. Right now, it's set up right next to her water bottle, so that she can burrow out from under it only a little to grab her water.

Mice always astound me with their cleverness. You know a hamster or a gerbil wouldn't even bother!

Character Sheet
Wednesday. 9.11.13 11:53 pm
I've been thinking about... well, the brevity of our passage across this mortal coil and I was thinking about the frustration I've always had with character sheets. I always want to take ALL of the skills ALL or the classes ALL of the races and so I created sheets and sheets or characters with different types of skills sets and different backstories... it was very fun, but I do the same thing in my own life. I want to be GREAT at... EVERYTHING! I want to play musical instruments, draw, speak foreign languages, read all the books, watch all the TV shows, help all the people, let all the cars in, open all the doors... but here I am, rapidly running towards... well you know where, and I just can't seem to narrow it down. I think I want to pick a handful of hobbies to pursue with singular attention for the next five years... then, at least I'll have some proficiency in them. This is a current list of things I may add to my person character sheet:

Knitting
Drawing
Graphic Design
Illustration
Portraits
Noveling
Rock Climbing
Skiing
Hiking
Jogging
Basketball
Dog Training (still no dog :()
Reading
Science fiction
Fantasy
Graphic Novels
Children's Literature
YA literature
Picking up an instrument
picking up a language
Spanish
ASL
More German
Swedish
Arabic
Thai
More Korean
More Chinese
More French
Get really started with Vietnamese?
learning to throw a frisbee
Play strategic board games better... (while not buying fellow players under unholy alliances)
Ju Jitsu
Yoga
Balloon Animals?
Origami
Peace cranes
And I've probably forgotten something... best take a look at it later... narrowing much commence

The War
Wednesday. 9.4.13 2:31 pm
There is a war going on every day in America homes. A war in which one side battered, slaughtered and coated with chemical weapons and the other is... well bitten incessantly! There have been three causalities in my little war against the mosquitoes that have somehow managed to get into my house. It's hard to say if that will be the end of it. I have bites all over my back, on my EYEBROW on my knuckle! I really feel no qualms in killing them all. Please, let me release them onto the next stage of existence. They have been good mosquitoes, now please die! I look like I have pocks! It's ridiculous.

I wish I were more sensitive to insects, I really do. Every day, millions of species of insects are being lost with the loss of the Rain Forest (in fact, they account for the vast majority of species lost), however, it seems that their cousins (the cockroaches, the flies, the moths, the earwigs, the mosquitoes) are all doing JUST FINE. In fact, if we count ants in the same barrel, ants are the dominate species of the planet. Insects are the dominate species type. There are more insects than there are any other type of creature. In fact, insects may account for more species of animal than all the other species combined. Insects are doing just fine. Still, it would be nice if they would just STAY OUTSIDE. I mean, what other thing had you instantly grabbing whatever heavy object is nearest to you and flinging it randomly through the air? I have thrown shoes, rolled up newspapers... and you should see me with a fly swatter. I turn into a freaking olympic fencer. Paw, paw, paw.

So, I'm hoping I've killed enough of them. I swear, I'll go back up to my room and see another one LURKING, but what can you do. They are tiny and bitey and- nothing, you can't do anything. Oh well.
