SPOTLIGHT:YUNG BERG FROM THE SOUTHSIDE OF CHICAGO
Tuesday. 4.3.07 10:14 pm
Yung Berg is a rapper/producer from the south side of Chicago. He first got his feet wet in the industry at the age of 15, when he met D.M.X. X was so impressed with the work ethic and motivation from Berg that he immediately signed him up to his Bloodline Record label distributed by Def Jam; making Berg the first artist signed to the imprint. Only a minor at the time, X shipped Yung Berg to New York and began production on his first LP. Unfortunately Berg’s parents couldn’t see eye to eye with the company so they removed him from the deal and sent him to Thompson Falls, Montana for boarding school.
After spending a year in school there, Berg was released and returned to Chicago to further his career. While in school, Berg was stripped of everything including television and music, therefore he had a lot of catching up to do in order to improve his swagger. Luckily he had made relationships so he was able to work on projects like Eve-olution, Bringing Down the House, and Barbershop 2.
Not only does Berg write all his material but he also writes for others. His ghostwriting skills helped Berg evolve into a producer. He started Yung Boss production with his two partners, Jason Fleming (pka) JFK and Robert Watson (pka) Holla. With both JFK and Holla being producers, Berg became more self contained than ever. Since forming the company, the Yung Bosses have produced for Eve, Juelz Santana, Memphis Bleek, and most recently Shawnna from D.T.P. (Berg is also featured on Shawnna’s album Block Muzic.)
Yung Berg has presence and swagger to compete with anyone in the industry, he writes hits for himself and others living up to his label name, Yung Boss.
Check out the debut single, "Sexy Lady" from Southside Chicago native Yung Berg.
