Hello everyone,

I am going to Japan with my boyfriend for three weeks in September. His father is paying for our tickets with his frequent flyer miles, which is awesome, but my boyfriend and I are pretty much in charge of EVERYTHING ELSE. This includes hostel fees, entrance fees to certain sights, money for food, and cash for a week's worth of transportation (we have JR passes for the first two weeks), as well as funds for gifts for all of my friends back home. This all adds up to roughly $2000+ per person that we are in charge of.

I have no money right now. I have a job, but they only give me between 12-18 hours a week. I make $10/hr. What I need are ideas for raising this amount of cash (and I know it's a large amount) by Sept. 1st.

Here are some ideas I have so far:
Garage/Bake Sale (What sells well at a garage sale?)
Plato's Closet or Crossroads Trading Co. for selling some of my clothes
Scrounging up change and turning the rolls into my local bank
Not spending any of my paychecks

That is all I have so far, and I am really worried that I am not going to have enough! For the record, I want to avoid asking anyone for cash unless I've provided them some sort of service

Old clothes and junk at garage sales. Plato's closet, I doubt they'd give you good money for your clothes. Same for Crossroads. Go for the change, save all of your paychecks.

See how many people you can get to come to your NuTang. If you can pull some cool tricks out of your bum, you can rake in the ReveNue, and have that sent to you via paypal, and put it into your bank account.

You could cut grass... bake! Bake sales are good. Wash/Walk dogs... Combine your bake/garage sale, because people at garage sales are usually hungry, or have kids that will see your pretty pink cupcake and whine that they want a cupcake or a 75 cent 500ml bottle of water.

BTW, I'm jealous and I hate you. :p

I can't go to Japan or China or Korea until I know enough to not die. I might be able to pull it off in Japan, but definitely not China or Korea. If I were to go to Japan now, I'd sound mostly like "Me Jessica. You. Water. Give. Please? (useless article)"

Hahaha, I think I'll have trouble with the language barrier as well. I have been studying the Japanese language for three years now, but I'm still a total noob when it comes to actually carrying on a conversation, I have some trouble. Thanks for your input!

I've been trying to teach myself since I was 15? I haven't been overly serious about it, but I can translate some things, and know enough vocabulary to not die... I hope.

I'll find out if I ever go.

Not spending you paycheck is suicide.. Maybe only spend half or something.. The Garage Sale helps.. and if there are books which you don't read anymore, you can sell them too.. Ganbatte!
