Gay Marriage

i Want to know your opinion/views/rants on Gay Marriage (civil or religious).
This is for my Anthropology essay. i Mean, BIG essay. =S

I posted about it a while ago, lemme see if I can dig it up...

People are entitled to the same rights as everyone else, no matter what religions, sexual orientation or race they are.

I'm all for gay marriage.

People that argue about "the sanctity of marriage" should take a good hard look at the divorce rate in this country.

People are entitled to the same rights as anyone else on paper, but not in reality. Illegal immigrants will never ascertain the same rights as I will because they're illegal immigrants. As long as I am in Texas and surrounded by individuals who find pride in the title "Good ol' boy"(I'm sure most of the people who read this won't even know what I'm talking about here..)I'll never be able to date someone of fairer skin without having a few eyebrows raised toward me, even though it should be my "right" to date whoever I choose and be free of persecution, in theory. On paper, Hillary Clinton should be able to run for president and have the fact that she is a woman not be a major issue. And on paper and in a perfect utopia, perhaps people should be able to marry whoever they want, regardless of religion, sexual orientation, or race, but in application, that just is not the case.

On one hand a part of my is sympathetic to the mantra that homosexuals should be able to marry yet the issue stirs up dichotomous feelings in me because of my own religious beliefs. I was taught that man + wife was the only acceptable term of marriage, just like I was taught that it is wrong to lie, wrong to murder, wrong to divorce(in some instances,) wrong to have premarital sex, wrong to drink like a glutton, and so many other vices that people have that have become part of the norm in a society such as ours. So... I predict that gay marriage will eventually be legalized as our country continues to move more and more toward social liberalism and my opinion will be that of the minority.

I think it's only fair that gay marriage be allowed. Anything to piss off old white guys.

I agree with Chloe. I have a cousin that is gay and if decides he wants to get married, I'll support his choice.

I have nothing against it.
If they're in love, let them get married.
If you have a problem with it, don't pay attention.
We were all created equal, according to the Declaration of Independence.
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men [people] are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."
If getting married makes them happy, then let them! :)

The Declaration of independance said all men were created equal, yet slavery wasa still an institution accepted by all. The constitution claims that black people were worth 3/5ths of whites. Both documents can be percieved to be simply words on paper or absolute truths. If we choose to believe that everyone is entitled to "unalienable rights" like life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, then there shouldn't be an immigration debate. Selling dope, or takng, shouldn't be illegal either if it fits in with the mantra of "the pursuit of happiness." Where do we draw the line, as a society?

The government contradicts itself too much.

I still don't understand why people are so against same-sex marriage.
I have yet to hear a good argument.

There is a difference between understanding someone's viewpoint and accepting it.
