The gang of protistas is back, but only Omeali, Zygoe, Bengalii, and Yorz. In the dead of the night, these 4 have stolen some pennies and are on the run. To get home, they must cross a bridge that can only withstand the weight of 2 protistas at any time. As there is no moon out, they must cross with a flashlight. But, they only have 1 flashlight!! MUAhaHAHHAaa, foolish protistas.

Omeali can cross the bridge in 1 second, Zygoe in 2 seconds, Bengalii in 5 seconds, and Yorz in 10 seconds. When two protistas cross the bridge, they cross at the speed of the slower one.

What is the shortest time it will take all 4 protistas to cross the bridge? This time, your solution must include your logic.

I believe the answer to be 19 seconds.
My logic is that Omeali holds the flashlight for each protista crossing the bridge.
He goes over the bridge first with Yorz [10 seconds], then goes over the bridge with the flashlight to fetch Bengalii [1 second]. They go over the bridge [5 seconds]. Omeali crosses the bridge this time to fetch Zygoe [1 second]. They cross [2 seconds].
All protistas have crossed the bridge in 19 seconds. 10+1+5+1+2=19

Perhaps this is flawed, but Omeali should just cross with Zygoe [2 seconds], and point the flashlight back at Yorz and Bengalii who cna walk straight towards it [10 seconds]. That's 12 seconds.

Another valiant effort. However, the reason 2 protistas travel at the speed of the slower one is because the protista can only navigate with the flashlight. This bridge can possibly be 100 miles long, and the flashlight beam is not that strong. Remember, protistas are very fast creatures. MUaahaHAHAHAHAa.

Why do you need a flashlight if you're on a bridge? Why not walk just straight forward? Protistas aren't that dumb.

Okay, so Omeali and Zygoe cross together with the dim, weak, pansy flashlight that couldn't out-shine a shoe (+2). Omeali crosses back with the flashlight (+1). He gives it to Yorz and Bengalii who then cross (+10). Zygoe brings it back (+2) and returns with Omeali (+2). Grand total = 17 seconds.

Better be safe than sorry. This bridge can be 1 inch wide, and 1 wrong step could result in a dead protista.
