"Unbutton your clothes, undress your soul, show them your vigor.." -Our Lady Peace

"It doesn't kill you, it's not a one-way ticket to a lonely life. It might break your heart, but the physical risk is low. You might feel so bad that you wanna die but if you died you would never know, that it didn't kill you. Soon you would've felt better." -Fastball
Guilty, As Charged

A good friend of mine has this theory about people that I think makes some sense. She thinks a good way to see what makes an individual ..well, an individual... is to find out what his or her 'guilty pleasures*' are. I think she's onto something.

I like geeky things, like sci-fi/fantasy shows and books, old movies, reading a girly magazine once in a while, Halo, etc. (In case you're thinking, "That doesn't count 'cuz you just admitted to those things," ...know that my heart skipped a beat or two while typing.) I'm not a 'girly-girl.' Put me in a room full of females and I'll get fidgety from the estrogen overdose. It's nothing personal...I'm just more comfortable around guys. I'm sure there are plenty of girls who feel the same.

I'm thinking about individuality because of a guy a know who often comes off as someone lacking in personality. He seems to have become a shadow to his best friend, but I refuse to believe he is but a shadow. I wonder what is 'guilty pleasures' are.

What's yours?

*Guilty pleasure: something one does for enjoyment, but does not commonly admit it to others for fear of embarrassment or ridicule.

I <3 food
Sunday. 4.6.08 7:40 pm
One of my favorite pastimes is food. I love food. I love cooking food. I love looking at, smelling, tasting, and devouring food. Today I made a fritatta with a chopped chipotle pepper and topped it with a meager mixture of adobo sauce, molasses, cider vinegar, and a little water to dilute it. It was quite tasty.

For a nice simple meal this week, I'd like to recommend a beans and recipe, if you're a fan of beans. For me, that meal bordered on comfort food. My next venture, in order to spice things up, will be chipotle brownies. Hopefully I can get to try them this week.

Things that scare me
Saturday. 4.5.08 4:24 pm
are not common. Most of them are logical: death by suffocation, surgery, and such.

But then there's this. I don't know why, but this scares me. Don't misunderstand my fear. I'm open-minded when it comes to freedom of choice (and therefore I stay out of people's decisions on abortion, sex-changes, etc.). However, this bothers me. I wouldn't mind hearing some other opinions. What do you think?

Counting down the hours
Friday. 4.4.08 1:14 am
Woo! So, it's been a while since I've done a sci-fi-fan/uber-dork thing that 'normal' people make fun of. But this one isn't that bad... it's Battlestar! Battlestar Galactica! Part of the reason I love this series is how realistic it can be about the desperation and destitution mankind is plagued with. Plus, the pretend science behind it is kind of fascinating too. And now...ONLY HOURS until the fourth season begins!

Super-woo!

equal-ish?
Thursday. 4.3.08 1:28 pm
I imagine it's hard to define the lines between equal and not. Equality can easily become a sore subject and it sometimes surprises me where the issue shows up. For example, here is an issue involving disability. The actual concern is that a disabled person will have an unfair advantage because of his prosthetics. I can't decide who might be right or wrong. My only opinion would be when a disable person's prosthetics are motorized would/could an unfair advantage present itself. But I'm still on the fence over the issue.
