You give me fever, when you kiss me,
fever when you hold me tight
Fever - in the the morning,
fever all through the night. - "Fever" Michael Buble

ooo right.. i didn't think it was quite that literal and it sure kept me up last night.

it started 2 days ago when i dreamt a whole movie plot filled with jackie chan choreography and i actually finished the story before i woke up which is amazing.

last night kept waking up and feeling restless.. dreamt of a perilous journey to rome filled with warships.

i seem to be at my creative best when nursing fevers.

last temp: 37.8
current state: self confessed maniac pill popper

bug attack
Sunday, January 11, 2009
was doing my share of spring cleaning with the windows again and i've come to a conclusion: it has been a good year for the bugs. Apparently there's lot more dead bodies than last year which means the spiders or whatever that is eating them are still pretty much unaffected by the recession. Only wish they would clean up after they're done

frantic fun whirlwind
Saturday, January 10, 2009
it's been a really really fun week, meeting different friends every night. I'm very sure i've said this before but i feel i've got really great friends, even though i may not get to see them often, it's nice being able to just pick off where we left off when we meet.

met up with tia on thurs evening for a nice dinner and chit chat at blue jazz cafe. Passed by the place a few times when i was working near bugis last time and finally got a chance to try the food there. I read some reviews before going so manage to adjust my expectations somewhat so was a pretty good experience. Nice ambience, grilled dory fish and ok mango lassi.. best thing was they didn't bother us when we've finished eating and just sitting around talking, might be due to poor service but i think it suits me just fine. got a cool adidas toiletries pouch to bring along as well, thank babe!

finally settled my visa on friday by collecting it from the embassy, and went down to apply for this ISIC card which i heard is really helpful in discounts. Met up with some army folks, all ex-atecians like me for a nice dinner at lau par sat. We had the zi char there, at least the prices were reasonable for that touristy place unlike Newton circus (rip off place). Doc 2 then suggested we go marina barrage for drinks instead as Jonny boy brought some champagne.. being all bachelors ourselves we had no idea where that is and only found it after some trial and error. Nice place though, but felt we were the wrong crowd because it was all comprised of couples there! But as with all places in singapore, i don't think there really is place for privacy as the place is pretty open and there were quite a few couples around so couldn't find anyone snogging lol!

It's actually quite interesting to know that for a male dominated workplace, there's still quite a lot of politicking and bitching around from guys... geez.. but can be quite fun, at least it was during my time hehe.. one of my proudest moment being able to secure more office space (cubicles) for my department at the expense of another, and the unexpected consequence of making my friend a wandering nomad in search of desk space when he wants to do work =)

and it's a very proven fact that guys suck at multi tasking, i'm totally horrible at it. This post took me half an hour and it sounds really weird because i'm trying to listen to my music at the same time (katy perry rocks!).

Yah!
Thursday, January 8, 2009
went to visit my grandmother on tuesday, watched a dvd of her graduation from this new senior's citizen's college called Yah! Apparently not to my knowledge, she had been attending some basic english lessons from the above mentioned school and have been actively participating in its activities as a volunteer as well. In the graduation, the organisation booked a school's auditorium and the graduates were all wearing the gowns which were kinda cute. One by one they went up on stage (my granny as well!) to receive their certificates from the minister who was the guest of honour on that day. As i watched, I could see the proud faces of them having accomplished their courses (eng or computing) and listen to her talk about her experience learning and going on excursions. I think this proves that you're never too old enough to learn and to have dreams you want to accomplish.. i'm glad i shared that little moment with her even though i could not physically attend the graduation.

Met up wynn and gang on tues and the bishan gang on wed.. so many meet ups but all so enjoyable. As much as i was writing in the past about not being able to engage with other people due to the school system, i'm glad to say that i've been fortunate enough to meet nice people and do realise that they are a great bunch of sweeties. life works in mysterious ways, and as much as the non church attending person that i currently am, i know i've been blessed and am grateful. :)

life oh life

you know, the funny thing is... if you're closer friends with somebody, you tend to say things more directly without mincing your words.. which is weird considering you don't usually tell someone you barely know that you hate their guts or the way they do something.. at least for me that is.. I mean if i didn't know someone that well and i didn't like him or her, chances are I won't tell them as opposed to somebody i know..

It happened this evening after dinner and a great round of board games where we spent like 5 hours trying to figure out how to play game of thrones. We were just sitting around and suddenly my friend brought up a slightly sensitive topic and suddenly everything just spilled from there. May be due to the alcohol or build up angst but quite a lot of things were thrashed out and in no uncertain terms.

It then got me thinking about what i mentioned in the first paragraph.. do we actually feel less inhibited to say what we really mean in our minds to the people that we are more familiar with even though it may be more hurting? On one hand, i'm thinking it's probably because we care about the other person that we want to point out their weaker areas hoping that they'll improve. However on the other, the person on the receiving end of the critique may feel offended or insulted by the "revelation", especially coming from such a close source, even more so than if a stranger were to said it. For myself, when i dislike someone or something that they do, for some reason perhaps due to social conditioning, i don't say it or mention it so directly even though i may not know them so well. Thinking about it now.. i'm not too sure though whether is it because i care how they think about me after that or because i don't care whether they change at all.

I always believe it's only worth being nice to the people that are nice to you.. but occasionally mistakes do happen but you live and learn, hopefully becoming more discerning in future.

Anyways, i think the fatigue or the alcohol is getting to me, i don't seem very coherent at this point so i shall stop here. In the end, we sort of drifted to other topics but i'm sure it would have lingered in their minds a little after that. I hope those idiots realise that it'll be a waste if it affected our so many years of friendship but at the same time take time to reflect on the points that were mentioned. There was a ritual once in scouts that we had to go through before becoming ventures: everyone had to sit at a table and take turns saying one good thing and one bad thing about the person.. even though it was all guys.. things turned pretty bad when we all said what we really felt about each other.. yes there were crying and shouting.. but somehow we understood each other better from then on and some became my really good friends that i know i can even trust my life to them (in retrospect im glad it happened). hopefully tonight will be the same. all that emotions thing.. i'm starting to sound like a girl, shit.. nono.. ok im a tough guy ok

Happy new year everybody!

Been long on the updates, more lazy than busy actually. Oh well here goes:

ended work yesterday, will be a long while before i see them again.. but we had a cool new year's eve party in the office with some indian food and curry chicken.. the garlic naan was fantastic. I think my department seniors organised it because we felt bad during the Christmas period when the others were sending us stuff and we didn't have anything to give them in return... but actually they dumped a lot of work on us before they left so i thought we were even haha.

met up with addy, shay and pammy on sunday for dinner and beancurd.. even though we hang out pretty often in school we seldom go out together.. hard to find common free dates, but enjoyable nonetheless. They gave me two duckies, small keychain to bring along with me and a cushion speaker one which is squishy and adorable.

Met up with pei lin and gang at shokudo on thursday, first time meeting up with gabriel again after he had returned from perth.. he got us christmas presents.. haha so sweet, but i think he was trying to cover that up by tossing our presents on the table instead of handing it to us.. dun worry gab i won't tell lol. anyways, it was like a huge bday celebration because we celebrated for pl and yanty and also got our belated bday gifts from the girls. thanks :P Also found out that yanty flying on the same day as me and to the same destination, but unfortunately we're on different airlines so I won't have the luxury of making her my personal attendant haha..

Chinese new year is early this year as well, found this cool place selling golf ball sized pineapple tarts that are quite delightful in middle road. it's actually between the rochor beancurd stall and stansfield college, highly recommended but do make reservations as they have stopped selling in the store. Even andy lau patronises the place!

Wishing everyone a fantastic new year ahead, downturn or not, there's always 4D and the 10 million toto draw to look forward to haha. Best of health, lots of love.

Till then, cheers!
