work ad infinitum
Friday. 2.22.08 2:39 am
So here's what my average week will be looking like:

Monday Hess: 2-10pm (alone)
Tuesday All Star: 7pm-1am
Wednesday Hess: 2-10pm (2-5 alone)
Thursday Hess 2-10pm (alone)
Friday Hess: 2-10pm (2-5 alone) & All Star: 11pm-4am
Saturday Hess: 5-10pm & All Star 11pm-4am

So yes, I will be working 7 days per week probably every week until the week that I have to move. But Sunday and Tuesday allow me to sleep in a bit and perhaps see a movie or do something 'interesting' . The days that I am alone at Hess turn out to be the most exhausting despite the fact that Fridays I leave the apartment at 11:30am to catch my train. Work a full shift at Hess. Catch the bus and train home. Then go to work at All Star for 5 more hours which involves nonstop running around because of how busy it is and then not get home until after 4:30am.

All Star is pretty decent. May pay is in cash each Wednesday. We get tips each night usually. And on Sunday and Tuesday when I work the longer shifts there I get to pick something out to eat for free which is a big help! Especially since I love their food.

Now this upcoming week will be weird and most likely even MORE exhausting because I have jury duty on Wednesday. So I will work at Hess alone Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. I lose 5 hours of a shift working with someone like I do on Wednesdays. And I'll probably go in after jury duty to All Star. So it should be another free meal, the same hours/money I'll be getting on an average week plus whatever I get for jury duty. But the two downsides are I lose one of my sleep-in days which also includes "free time" to do something fun and an extra 8 hour shift alone at Hess. But hopefully it'll go back to the schedule listed above after this week.

If things hold out like this there is the distinct possibility that I could end up working over 120 days straight again without a date off. I've done it before. Hell, it's how I was able to purchase my previous car. Which is another reason that my Neon meant so much to me. It was a symbol of my working my ass off to get something I really wanted...and more importantly...needed. But hopefully when it's time to move I'll be able to get a nice place to move into, get an even better car than I had anticipated, get myself a couple nice things I wouldn't have been able to get without all these hours...and the peace of mind that the buffer money would mean.

On top of all this, the owners of All Star had told Chad that while they'd been wanting a Web site for quite some time they really felt that it was the time to have one made. Chad told them that Web design/development is what my degree is in (that and business management). It sounds like i've been given the go-ahead to work on it. I will make up some designs and upload them and give them the links. Once they decide what one they like we'll discuss what they want on it then I'll populates the pages with the necessary info. This could mean both 1) MORE MONEY and 2) something pretty decent to put into my Web portfolio. Plus it gives me yet something else to do to feel that I am earning money 24/7.

I think that's about it for now. It was quite a lot.
I just wanted to get this posted so that one may better understand any lags in updating that may occur. But I hope that the extra money will lead to me doing more interesting stuff which gives me that much more new stuff to blog about. And once I move and possibly go back to just one job and have even more time to do stuff that will be thrilling to read about.

Okay.

Time to eat the salad that I paid for at All Star when I got off the train which Chad is bringing home in a few minutes. Then sleep..in preparation for a VERY, VERY busy/tiring week.

Wish me luck.
Thank you, amigos.

I am so beat. But it's a good kind of beat. Because of what caused it...

I was at work filling the entire cooler. The soda, milk, iced tea and other various beverages which we sell. I consolidated all the cases/racks of product. I took out the 30 empty milk crates the first shift left and the 10 that I emptied and took out all of the trash that they'd left. It seems that I am the only one to follow the rule of "if you empty it, you take it out.". So I took out all of the trash I made and took out everything from everyone else.

Then I attacked the Gatorade like you wouldn't believe. Honestly..it hadn't been touched in about two months and both sections of Gatorade product was empty. I had to carry each case from the main hallway of the store into the cooler, break open the case, fill the cooler racks and then take all of the trash out. Heavy stuff. Much lifting, bending and repeat.

Towards the end of that Chad called me and said that a bunch of people from the counter and the kitchen called out where he worked. It was supposed to be one guy's first night and he pulled a no-call/no-show. So he lost his job already. A few people will be fired over tonight. Chad told them that I had been interested in picking up some hours there and that I had experience in a similar setting. So they asked him to call me and see if I'd go in when I got home from work. Despite how exhausted I was, I went. I got in 4 hours. I will get more into the job in a future post but it's too much to type now considering my current level of exhaustion.

When we left Chad told me that they may have him call me in tomorrow night. And I said that I would see how I feel by then. I have to leave extra early for work to go to the city for the bank to cash my paycheck. Work is only 5 hours so if they offer, I may just take them up on it. End up with 45 hours of work this week. I make a good deal less at this other place but its under the table so when you figure in taxes and such from my day job it comes out to roughly the same pay. I figure that if I really get a hang of it then they could try to call me in whenever they need help and it'd just be more money for me to save up for my next car and my move in May/June.

I don't 100% dig the job but I can wear what I want and there's music that I'd actually listen to when not working unlike 85%+ of the music played at Hess. Plus the variety is MUCH greater where I work with Chad. And it should be alright if I'm not held to an actual schedule. With what I make from Hess I can pay my rent, my transportation and some food. With the money I'll be collecting back from Chad each week I'll get more in the way of savings. So this job will just help push my savings up. And like tonight I figured that I'd be up til now anyway. And I'd probably sit around and do not much of anything. So I might as well go in and make some more money. So I'll probably take it on an opportunity-by-opportunity basis.

Well I guess that's about it for now. I don't feel all that tired sitting here. Just sore as all hell. My eyes were burning somethin' ferocious towards the end of my shift at All-Star but they feel better. But I KNOW for a fact that as soon as I lay in bed..I'm gone!

I'll keep you posted. Happy Saturday!
